City officials announced this week Craig Ferguson will step in as fire chief for the Big Spring Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, taking over for Brian Jensen, who retired from the position in January.
Big Spring City Manager Gary Fuqua made the announcement Wednesday, ending the search that began when Jensen retired after more than 23 years with the BSFD.
According to Fuqua, Ferguson was chosen by the Big Spring Selection Committee for the position from more than 28 applicants.
COAHOMA — School officials here are trying to be creative in dealing with an anticipated budget shortfall.
With Coahoma Independent School District expecting to lose more than $275,000 in state revenue support this coming fiscal year, administrators are looking for ways to save money while maintaining current programs and services.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• CORY JOHN DEWART, 21, of Childress, Texas, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency.
• ARTHUR LYNN RICHARDSON, 48, of 906 S. Douglas, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• GUADALUPE DEANDA, 24, of 1211 Lloyd, was arrested Wednesday on five warrants from other agencies.
• DOLORES MORA JENNINGS, 25, of 1503 Sycamore Apt. B, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of assault – family violence.
