Tanker truck wreck leaves one injured

Emergency responders with the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene of a rollover accident Saturday night after a tanker truck carrying fuel caught fire on N. Highway 87, eight miles north of Big Spring.

The truck — an 18-wheeler tanker believed to be carrying some type of fuel — rolled onto its side following a traffic accident in the northbound lane. The driver was transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Fair quilt on display at education credit union

Hearts and flowers is the theme behind the quilt designed for this year's Howard County Fair.

More than 35 women joined in the effort to construct the king size quilt, for the 10th year.

“There are women who have been with this project since day one, but each year there are new members who join the cause,” Geraldine Posey, quilt participant, said.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• SONIA RENEE STRAUGHTER, 47, of 1500 Tucson, was arrested Monday on a warrant for theft – more than $50 and less than $500.
• ESPERANZA GARZA, 42, of 601 N.W. Fifth St., was arrested Monday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid – no insurance.
• RILEY ERIK WOOD, 20, of 605 Highland, was arrested Monday on a charge of disorderly conduct – window peeping.
