The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• PHILLIP EUGENE BEBEE, 38, of 1604 Settles, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for assault by contact (two counts).
• LARRY DALE KING, 29, of 4207 Oak, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of burglary of a building.
• THEFT was reported:
In the 1400 block of W. Second Street.
In the 400 block of E. Fourth Street.
In the 4500 block of Wasson.
• BURGLARY was reported in the 4100 block of Muir.
• STOLEN VEHICLE was reported in the 1300 block of Tucson.

College 'stars' to hit dance floor

Call it “Dancing With the College Stars.”

Howard College and SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf will team up this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hall Center for the Arts, to raise funds for SWCID's scholarship program.

The SWCID Student Government Association and Howard Dance Department are reinventing the "Dancing with the Stars" TV contest on the Howard campus.
Contestants and judges include students, faculty and staff from both SWCID and Howard College.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• JOHNNY JORGE RODRIGUEZ JR., 23, of 2625 Ent, was arrested Monday on a warrant from another agency.
• JOE MICHAEL CANALES, 32, of 1505 Vines, was arrested Monday on two warrants from other agencies.
• ERIC AGUIRRE, 32, of 4113 Dixon, was arrested Monday on a charge of burglary of a habitation.
• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 1000 block of E. FM 700.
• THEFT was reported:
In the 400 block of E. Fourth Street.
In the 4100 block of Dixon.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• JARVIS LAMAR ALEXANDER, 31, of Lubbock, Texas, was arrested Sunday on five warrants from other agencies.
• RILEY ERIK WOOD, 20, of 605 Highland, was arrested Sunday on a charge of evading arrest or detention with a previous conviction.
• TERELL JACOBY DEMERSON, 19, of 1900 Martin Luther King Blvd. (apartment number not provided), was arrested Sunday on warrants for consumption of alcohol by a minor and failure to appear.

Body to undergo autopsy

Law enforcement officials say there are no outward indications what caused the death of a 39-year-old Big Spring man whose body was discovered in a field Friday afternoon in the southwest part of the city.
Daniel Gene Moses, 39, of Big Spring was pronounced dead at the scene by Howard County Justice of the Peace Bennie Green shortly after the call was received by law enforcement.
According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the Big Spring Police Department, the body was discovered and reported to police at approximately 4:15 p.m.

Holidays, winter post fire danger

Officials with the Big Spring Fire Department are knocking on wood, and with good reason.
The seasonal upswing in the number of house fires the city of Big Spring and outlying areas normally see thanks to the holiday and colder weather has yet to arrive, according to Fire Marshal Carl Condray, but the good luck doesn't usually last.

Christmas is coming to Big Spring

Grinches, Scrooges and other assorted humbug sorts will be advised to stay away from Big Spring next weekend.

The Christmas season arrives with a purpose this coming weekend, with parades, lighting displays, concerts and several other activities filling the schedule.

The first of the holiday events will be Friday evening, when the local VA Medical Center hosts its annual tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.

Officials: Protect water lines from cold

With temperatures soon to dip below freezing, Assistant City Manager Todd Darden said local residents can protect their property — and more to the point, their water lines — by taking precautions.

“That means leaving your hot and cold water dripping just enough to keep the pipes from freezing, as well as insulating any exterior pipes or fixtures,” said Darden.

Commissioner face routine agenda

Howard County commissioners are to meet Monday morning to deal with a rather routine agenda.

Commissioners are to meet with County Auditor Jackie Olson to discuss invoices, purchase requests and proposed budget amendments. Olson will present the court with consideration of copier leases.

County Treasurer Teresa Thomas is to present personnel considerations, while Road and Bridge Administrator Brian Klinksiek will deliver an update on county road maintenance and pipeline crossings.

Salvation Army gears for big holiday meal

For some Crossroads residents, a hot, home-cooked Thanksgiving meal is simply out of reach, both financially and physically. However, the Big Spring Area Salvation Army will be reaching out to those folks this week, as the local charity presents its annual holiday meal.

While the effort reaches out to low-income families, the hungry and others, it all begins with hard work from numerous volunteers.
