Rail line project heading down the tracks

November 13, 2013

Big Spring’s Economic Development Corp. is going into the rail business — in a manner of speaking.

The local city council capped more than a year of EDC planning and negotiation Tuesday by giving formal approval to a $493,000 rail line construction project at the McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark.

The agreement between EDC and the city will expand the rail line at the airpark and is part of an overall plan by the corporation to enhance rail service in the area.

Big Spring City Council gave its blessing Tuesday to an agreement which will allow oil and gas exploration at the McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark.

The council authorized City Manager Todd Darden to negotiate with representatives of Veritas Energy Partners (headquartered in San Antonio and Midland) on a contract which would allow the firm to explore 1,500 acres of the airpark for oil and gas. The agreement includes production clauses in case the company would want to commence drilling operations.
