Although Monday marked the official end of the United Way of Big Spring and Howard County 2013 campaign, officials are making one last big push to collect donations before the allocation process to the 17 area agencies begins.
“We are currently at 50 percent of our goal,” said Sandy Stewart, United Way executive director. “We are trying to wrap up and get the monies in. Money is still coming in. Based on last year’s numbers, we should get close to what we made last year but maybe not quite as much.”
Most everyone knows that Saturday’s Big Spring Herald Christmas Parade — in an effort to improve the increased flow of traffic on Gregg — will be moved a block east to Scurry. There are a few other alterations spectators and parade participants need to be aware of, as well.
Unlike the many parking areas available on Gregg, spectators are being asked not to park on the street along Scurry, so that the parade may flow smoothly.
Also, in cooperation with the city and other entities, there will be a designated dropoff area at the end of the parade.
