No Region V title? No problem.
Despite falling in the finals of the Region V men's basketball tournament this past weekend, the Howard College Hawks received an at-large bid to compete in the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association national championship tournament.
Howard (28-5) is seeded 13th in the 24-team field and will begin play at 2 p.m. Monday against 20th-seeded East Mississippi (20-7). All tournament games will be at Hutchinson, Kan.
Local fire officials say the number of wildfires this year has been down compared to years past, and with spring just around the corner, the Crossroads area could enjoy a rather peaceful season to come.
âIt's actually pretty surprising,â Howard County Volunteer Fire Chief Tommy Sullivan said. âLast year at this time, was a pretty slow year for us. However, this year we're seeing even fewer fires. The average right now is about one wildfire per week, which is pretty amazing.â
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
â¢ ELLAINE DAVIDSON GRIFFIN, 50, of Lubbock, Texas, was arrested Monday on five warrants from other agencies and a charge of shoplifting â more than $50 and less than $500.
â¢ JONATHAN MICHAEL RICHARDSON, 22, of 1707 Donley, was arrested Monday on a warrant for theft by check â more than $20 and less than $500.
â¢ KODY CHANCE JACKSON, 27, of 3217 Fenn, was arrested Monday on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
