County to sign off on facility overcharges

Howard County commissioners will meet Monday morning to discuss a number of routine items, including an amendment to the inter-local agreement between the county and the city of Big Spring for overages in the recent construction of joint law enforcement center.

Commissioners are expected to consider an agreement with the city of Big Spring that will call for the municipality to cover half of the $110,000 in overages the project incurred during the construction of the Troy M. Hogue Joint Law Enforcement Center.

Hoops, Dreams and Goals returning to coliseum

The Ninth Annual Hoops Dreams and Goals 2013 competition is set for March 22 at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.

“Hoops, Dreams and Goals is an exhilarating event we use to celebrate Intellectual and developmental disabilities awareness month and to kickoff our spring to coincide with all the March Madness Basketball Tournaments going on across the nation,” said West Texas Centers CEO Shelley Smith, LMSW.

“It’s just a fun event that brings our entire community together and gives our athletes a chance at some friendly competition.”

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity:
• DANIEL RIOS, 26, was arrested on a warrant for theft over $50/under $500.
• GUS WAYNE JACOBS, 55, 3111 S. Anderson Road, was arrested on a warrant from another agency.
• ALEXIS NICOLE PARKS, 17, 3228 Cornell, was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana.
• DONTAE RENELL CARR, 31, 3006 Cherokee, was arrested on charges of failure to give identifying information and possession of marijuana.
• AVEL ABREO RAMIREZ, 68, 1512 Wood, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
