The Big Spring City Council is set to meet Tuesday evening, with final approval of an agreement between the municipality and the county to fund the opening and construction of a new city landfill topping the agenda.
The resolution â€” which includes an inter-local agreement with Howard County to provide for sharing of the costs of land acquisition, permitting, operation, ownership, closure and post closure of a new municipal landfill â€” has been at the center of turmoil between the two governments since the city council approved first reading of the measure March 26.
FORSAN â€” Forsan Independent School District's Elbow Elementary won an award presented to successful schools with a high proportion of low-income students.
Elbow received the Texas Education Agency's Distinguished Performance Award, given to high performing campuses which have at least 40 percent of its students coming from low-income families.
The school was one of only 211 campuses state-wide â€” and one of only two in this region â€” to earn this award, FISD Superintendent Randy Johnson said.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ CHRISTOPHER RAY TEICHMAN, 40, of 1207 Hilltop Rd., was arrested Saturday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ JOHN THOMAS MARTINEZ, 27, of 709 Creighton, was arrested Saturday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ JOSE ANTONIO NIETO, 32, of 2403 S. Main St., was arrested Saturday on charges of public intoxication and criminal mischief.
