The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• JEREMY GLEN WILLIAMS, 27, of 1 Courtney Place Apt. 706, was arrested Thursday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
• JAMES RANDLE GONZALEZ, 28, of 2601 Ent, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
• DARRICK DEWAYNE MOSLEY, 45, of 904 S. Aylesford, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency.

'Sleeping Beauaty' performance postponed

Performances of "Sleeping Beauty" scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight and Friday at the Hall Center for the Arts on the Howard College campus, has been postponed for a week.

HC Dance Director Eulaine McIntosh cited "unforeseen circumstances" in announcing the postponement.

The performances have been rescheduled for April 25-26 at 7:30 p.m.

"Tickets already reserved or sold for this weekend will be honored," McIntosh said in a statement. "We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this.

Officials vow cooperation over landfill

Confrontation is being replaced by communication.

Issues over how to share costs of funding a new municipal landfill, which threatened to turn into a war of words between Big Spring and Howard County officials, have not been resolved, but an encouraging sense of cooperation was evident following a meeting between representatives of the two entities Wednesday.

Big Spring Mayor Tommy Duncan and County Commissioner John Cline, along with City Councilman Marcus Fernandez, Commissioner Jimmie Long and several city staffers, met to discuss the potentially divisive issue.

Conditions prime for grass fires, city fire marshal warns public

For many Big Spring residents, the arrival of spring translates into plenty of yard and lawn work, including mowing, pruning trees and bushes and other activities to prepare for the summer season.

However, many residents will be faced with the prospect of what to do with the leftover trimmings and other waste, a problem which can quickly translate into dangerous situations and work for local firefighters, according to Big Spring Fire Marshall Carl Condray.

• MELINDA MACHADO GAMBOA, 36, of 1200 Dixie, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency.
• DAVID ADAM MARTINEZ, 28, of 608 Caylor, was arrested Wednesday on charges of fleeing from or attempting to elude police officers and disregarding a stop sign.
• MALORY MARIE LUNA, 22, of 4201 W. Highway 80 Apt. 13, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of hindering officers discharging official duties.

• RONNIE EUGENE LEAL, 23, of 1408 S. Birdwell Lane, was arrested Sunday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
• ISSAC JAMES TARIN, 20, of 1907 S. Main St., was arrested Sunday on a warrant for criminal trespass.
• ADAM STARR, 28, of 802 E. 14th St., was arrested Sunday on warrants for disorderly conduct – language, bail jumping – failure to appear (fine only, three counts) and two warrants from other agencies.

New project continues improvements on I-20 Business

Big Springers are getting ready — as much as possible — for another year of road construction through their town.
Before road renovation on Third and Fourth streets east of Gregg is finalized, Price Construction crews will begin the same type of work on a mile-long stretch of Business I-20 (Third and Fourth streets) west of Gregg.
The project nvolves rehabilitating I-20 Business from Jones Street to U.S. 87 (Gregg Street) and will include sidewalk construction. The work will tie in with the current project to rehabilitate the route from Gregg east to N. Owens Street.

Area residents will get the opportunity to hear an up-and-coming Christian rock band while also helping out the Big Spring Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, as the local charity looks to raise funds for its newly constructed computer room.
The Boys and Girls Club, which recently moved into its new building and gym located adjacent to the Salvation Army offices, will host Christian rock band Thirty-Nine Thoughts on Friday, according to program coordinator Heather DeElena.
