The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• WILLIAM TYSON FLEMING, 56, of 3405 E. Highway 350, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of no driver's license – when unlicensed.
• BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported in the 1400 block of E. Sixth Street.
• THEFT was reported:
In the 3600 block of W. Highway 80.
In the 800 block of W. Fifth Street.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office reported the following activity:
Note — Officials with the Howard County Jail reported having 73 inmates at the time of this report.

BSHS graduation set for Friday

More than 200 students will receive diplomas when the Big Spring High School Class of 2013 holds commencement exercises at 8 p.m. Friday in Garrett Coliseum.

Top graduates for the class are Connor Furqueron and Charles Anderson.

Furqueron, son of Phil and Cherry Furqueron, is class valedictorian and will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average. He is a National Honor Society member and received the Optimist Youth Achievement Award and the Highest Academically Ranked Male Athlete Award.

PEP wins rail bid

A Fortune 500 company has been given the go ahead to build a new trans-loading operation northeast of Alon's Big Spring Refinery.

After weeks of deliberation, the Big Spring Economic Development Board voted unanimously to grant Permian Energy Partners, LLC a lease to develop approximately 300 acres of unimproved land situated in Howard County, which is owned by the economic develop corporation.

Coahoma commencement Thursday

COAHOMA — Morgan Luce and Jessica Goodger will lead Coahoma High School's Class of 2013 during commencement exercises scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.

Luce, son of Brandon and Linda Luce, is class valedictorian. He has served as president of the student council, National Honor Society and the Coahoma and El Rancho district chapters of the Future Farmers of America. In addition, he is a past recipient of the Howard County Optimist Club's student of the month award.

He was captain of the varsity football team and also participated in basketball and golf.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• ROCHELLE JAN MIX, 27, of 1002 E. 12th St., was arrested Tuesday on charges of assault – family violence and resisting arrest, search or transportation.
• DARREN ROBERT WELLS, 37, of 1707 Morrison, was arrested Tuesday on charges of evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, search or transportation and criminal mischief – more than $1,500 and less than $20,000.

They were heart-stirring ceremonies Monday morning as the members of the Big Spring Vietnam Memorial Committee and officials with Trinity Memorial Park presented their annual Memorial Day presentations, remembrances of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who gave everything they had to this great nation.

College trustee search gets under way Wednesday

Howard College officials will take the first step toward finding a new trustee when a search committee meets Wednesday.

The three-person committee, comprised of trustees John Freeman, Marie Etheridge and Murray Murphy, will meet at noon in the student union building's Tumbleweed Room to begin the process of replacing District 3 Trustee Larry McLellan, who resigned earlier this month after he was elected Big Spring mayor.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• GRADY DOMONIQUE HAWKINS, 30, of 810 Cherry, was arrested Monday on warrants for expired registration, failure to maintain financial responsibility and no driver's license – when unlicensed.
• MIRANDA SAIZ, 24, of 810 Cherry, was arrested Monday on warrants for no driver's license – when unlicensed (two counts), failure to appear (19 counts), failure to use child safety seat, driving without a seat belt and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• YOSELYNNEE PINEDA, 20, of 1104 E. Sixth St., was arrested Sunday on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.
• ELIAS GARRIDO TOVAR, 36, of 909 W. Fifth St., was arrested Sunday on a charge of hindering officers discharging official duties.

Westbrook High students ready to graduate

WESTBROOK — Sixteen seniors will receive their diplomas when Westbrook High School holds commencement exercises at 7 p.m. Friday in the school auditorium.
Alexis Nobles, daughter of Tracy Rees, is class valedictorian. During her high school career, she was active in National Honor Society, student council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
In athletics, she participated in basketball, tennis and cross-country.
She was also active in her church, as well, participating in mission trips to Nepal and Romania.
