Chili cook-off upcoming

The Fraternal Order of Eagles will host the 12th Annual Children-In-Need Chili Cook-Off benefiting West Texas Centers' Children-In-Need Benefit Fund on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Science fair winners named

Eighth-grader Trinity Joslin and seventh-grader Chloe Bustamante walked away from the Big Spring Independent School District Science Fair as the overall winners in their class.
The day-long event was held Friday on the Big Spring Junior High School campus.

BSISD to get TEA visit

City council convenes Monday

It will be a varied agenda for council members when Big Spring City Council meets for the first time in 2014.
The council is to meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers, located at 307 E. Fourth.
The meeting will open with public hearings on grant possibilities and property concerns.

Stock shows a family affair

Young Sam King spent his Thursday afternoon trying to make some obstinate pigs ready to shine at the Howard County Junior Livestock Show.
King is one of 143 area youths who've made the commitment to learn, raise, feed and eventually be willing to sell that farm animal for slaughter as part of a county educational agricultural program to teach young students about animal management.

Silver Wings Ball set Saturday

It's time to iron the tuxedo or pull out your best evening dress, but if you haven't already purchased tickets for the Hangar 25 Air Museum's annual Silver Wings Ball, you are out of luck.
According to Genevieve Stockburger, museum administrator, tickets for the event set for Saturday at the historic Hotel Settles are sold out, but those who have already made their purchase should have an enjoyable evening.

Students' food drive goes well for Salvation Army

The results of the annual canned food drive conducted by area public schools was a welcome sight to local Salvation Army officials and it is helping to replenish the pantry shelves after a successful Christmas season.
'We had a really successful can drive this year with all of the schools that participated,” said Salvation Army Lt. Jeremiah Romack.
