Computer problems turned Election Night in Howard County into a long, arduous affair for Elections Administrator Saundra Bloom and her staff Tuesday.

Where to vote in today’s primary elections:

• Precincts 11, 12, 12A, 13, 14, 16, 103, 104 and 105 — road and bridge office at 1000 N. San Antonio in Big Spring.
• Precincts 24, 25, 26, 205 and 208 — Spring Town Plaza, 1801 E. FM 700 in Big Spring.
• Precincts 32, 33, 34, 35 and 304 — First Baptist Church at 705 W. FM 700 in Big Spring.
• Precincts 42, 45, 46, 404 and 405 — Dorothy Garrett Coliseum, 1001 Birdwell on the Howard College campus.
• Precincts 408 and 409 — First Baptist Church in Sand Springs, 8517 N. Service Road, Sand Springs.

Fishing tournament postponed

The Big Spring Herald has been informed that Saturday's youth fishing tournament, sponsored by the Greater Big Spring Rotary Club, has been postponed until March 22.

Kinky visits Big Spring

Texas Agriculture Commissioner candidate Kinky Friedman made a stop in downtown Big Spring on Sunday to solicit votes before election day. BSISD receives accredited-warned status

Big Spring Independent School District has received accredited-warned status for the Texas Education Agency, which makes it one of 13 school districts and 17 charter schools across the state to receive the designation.

Robbery attempt goes awry Friday

A knife-wielding man is in custody following an apparent armed robbery Friday at the Big Spring Super Wal-Mart store.
Robert Andrews, 44, was taken into custody by Big Spring police officers outside of the Super Center around lunchtime.

BSPD officer arrested, placed on leave

March 1, 2014

A Big Spring Police Department officer has been placed on administrative leave following his arrest on theft charges.

Officer Simon Elizondo was arrested on a state jail felony charge of theft by a public servant Friday and booked into the Howard County Law Enforcement Center, BSPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Tony Everett said in a news release.

More than 2,000 cast early ballots

More than 2,000 Howard County voters cast early ballots for Tuesday’s primary elections, officials said.

By the end of early voting Friday, 2,015 people — 12.18 percent of the county’s registered voters — had cast ballots, County Elections Administrator Saundra Bloom said. That figure included 319 mail-in ballots.
