Names released of pair killed in oil field accident

WESTBROOK — The identification of two men who were killed in an oilfield-related accident in Mitchell county have been released by the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office.

Harvey Ray McKinney, 35, and Laban Michael Robokoff, 24, both of the Midland/Odessa area and both employees of Midland-based Rayco of Midland, died after being electrocuted when their truck came into a contact with a power line, according to Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs.

Forsan ISD trustees slate hearing on tax rate, budget

FORSAN — The public has a chance to voice an opinion on the proposed 2014-2015 budget and tax rate rate before trustees with the Forsan Independent School District consider final adoption of the items.

A public forum on the issue has been set for 6 p.m. Monday at the Fosan ISD boardroom, 411 W. Sixth, Forsan.

Rash of burglaries has PD warning residents

In recent days, Big Spring has been hit with a string of unrelated robberies, and local police officials are offering several tips to citizens to help them prevent becoming future crime victims.

“During the past week, Big Spring has experienced several robberies,” a BSPD news release states. “The police department would like to make the citizens aware of these crimes in hopes that the information will help prevent further crimes of this type.”

Two electrocuted in oil field accident

WESTBROOK — Two men were killed and another seriously injured in an oilfield-related accident near here Wednesday.

Officials said the men, whose names have not been released, were moving a pump jack about 10 miles northwest of Westbrook when a cable from their truck came into contact with a power line, electrocuting the men.

Family Medical Center patient records hacked

Family Medical Center was among several healthcare operations nationwide that had patient information hacked by a cyber-criminal attack, hospital officials said.

Amanda Duforat, marketing director at Scenic Mountain Medical Center, said limited personal information — names, addresses, birthdates, telephone numbers and social security numbers — belonging to “some” patients seen at Family Medical during the past five years was hacked during the cyber-attack, believed to be orchestrated by a group in China in April and June.

2 injured in altercation

Big Spring police are investigating an early Sunday stabbing that occurred in the western section of town.

Joshua Pierce, 30, and John Sipes, 58, were both seriously injured in the incident, which happened around 1 a.m. Sunday in in the 1300 block of Park Street.

Gas prices continue downward slide

August 19, 2014

Average retail gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 1.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.26 per gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 gas outlets in Texas.

This compares with the national average that has increased 2.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.49/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
