Big Spring Independent School District Trustee Pat DeAnda, claiming she's been ignored and marginalized by administrators and her colleagues on the school board, abruptly walked out of the middle of Thursday's board meeting.
DeAnda, District 2 trustee, had expressed her desire to address the board on “concerns” she had about the way BSISD officials were conducting the district's business. When told the subject had to be included on the evening's posted agenda in order to be discussed, she quickly summoned members of the media outside the board room for an impromptu news conference.
Daniel L. Marsh, director of the West Texas VA Health Care System, is headed for Oklahoma.
Marsh, who has been in the Big Spring area since 2008, will become director at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center effective June 2.
Marsh said he is proud of the processes that have been implemented and the accomplishments during the five years he's been in Big Spring.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• ERNESTO MARQUEZ ZUBIATE, 59, of 1103 E. 11th Place, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for assault by threat.
• TOMMY GENE ROPER, 39, of 1311 Mobile, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for theft – more than $500 and less than $1,500.
• BELINDA KAY HALL, 36, of 1434 Hilltop Rd., was arrested Thursday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury – family violence.

Howard College and Angelo State University are partnering on a plan which might provide a boost in enrollment to both campuses.
The plan was approved by Howard trustees Wednesday afternoon.
The proposal calls for students who were denied admission to ASU to be allowed to enroll in Howard College classes and, as long as they remain committed to reapplying to the larger university, can still take advantage of student support services at both institutions, including degree plan coordination.
Each year since 1989, a group of former service men and women and their families have straddled their bikes in a ride from California to Washington, D.C. The purpose, as it has always been, is one of healing, accountability and honor.
The vast group of motorcyclists who participate in “Run for the Wall” will stop in Big Spring Saturday morning en route to the nation's capitol. The public is encouraged to attend a wreath laying ceremony at the Big Spring Vietnam Memorial before the riders move on. It is anticipated they will arrive between 9:45 a.m. and 10:25 a.m.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• PAUL RAY FLANNELL, 55, of 1106 W. Fourth St., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• TERESA DIANE PARK, 57, of 13360 Old Colorado City Highway, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• BURGLARY OF A HABITATION was reported in the 500 block of S. Goliad.
• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 800 block of W. FM 700.

FORSAN — Construction projects approved by Forsan Independent School District voters Saturday should begin before the end of the year, school officials say.
By a margin of more than three to one Saturday, Forsan Independent School District voters approved a $23.8 million construction bond to finance a new elementary campus and extensive renovations elsewhere in the district.
FISD Superintendent Randy Johnson said he always believed the bond was in the best interests of the district, but conceded he was surprised by the margin of victory at the polls.
Big Spring Independent School District trustees will consider selling the mineral rights to a small patch of district property when they hold their monthly meeting at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the high school board room.
The property in question is a 5.5 acre tract of land near the BSISD bus barn on the 11th Place extension, said Debbie Green, district business manager.
Green said a firm has submitted a bid to purchase 50 percent of the mineral rights to the property. BSISD will retain all surface rights to the land, she added.

• RONALD STANLEY HASELBY, 62, of 1302 Tucson, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminal trespass.
• KEVIN WILLIAMS, 20, of 1002 Nolan, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of possession of marijuana – two ounces or less.
• NICHOLES HERNANDEZ LIMON, 24, of 1408 E. Sixth St., was arrested Tuesday on a charge of evading arrest or detention.
• LATONYA KAY CUBIT, 31, of 600 Interstate Highway 20 Apt. 123, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.

The city's gain is Howard College's loss.
When Larry McLellan formally steps up as Big Spring mayor tonight, he also will step down as a trustee for the Howard County Junior College District.
The state secretary of state's office has ruled that the two offices are “incompatible” and cannot be held at the same time. Therefore, when McLellan takes the mayoral oath of office today, he will, by matter of law, resign from his college trustee position.
