Community call to prayer Thursday

May 2, 2012

Prayers will be sent from the third floor of the Howard County Courthouse on Thursday.

A community call to prayer has been organized for 12:10 p.m.

“We don't need our pastors to organize this,” Justice of the Peace Kathryn Wiseman said. “This needs to come from the people.”

The scripture being used in support of the call to prayer is 2 Chronicles 7:13-15; “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

A/C failure forcing library to adjust hours

May 1, 2012

If you doubt the importance of air conditioning in West Texas, just drop by the Howard County Library some afternoon.

The library's air conditioning unit, which operated in fits and starts most of this spring, finally gave up the ghost for good recently, leaving the building a tad on the hot side.

Well, more than a tad, it turns out.

“It's been getting up to 83 or 84 most afternoons, and it'll only get hotter,” County Library Hollis McCright said. “It's gotten so warm that we've not had much business in the afternoon, and after 4 p.m., we're not getting anyone at all.”
