The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• MARILYN MARIE MENDEZ, 41, of 3509 E. Interstate Highway 20 Apt. 20, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant from another agency.
• KYLE WADE GUTHRIE, 27, of 408 W. Hillside Dr., was booked into the county jail Tuesday by the BSPD on a charge of online solicitation of a minor – intent sexual activity.
• WENDY ANN THOMAS, 33, of 620 State, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.

Local man arrested for solicitation

A Big Spring man was arrested by local and federal law enforcement officers during the early morning hours Tuesday on a charge of online solicitation of a minor, with possibly more charges to come, according to investigators.

Kyle Wade Guthrie, 27, of 408 Hillside Dr., was arrested at his residence at approximately 12:55 a.m. by deputies with the Howard County Sheriff's Office.

According to Sheriff Stan Parker, law enforcement officials received information regarding the offense Friday.

Hangar 25 promotes division patches

Representation for all who served at Webb Air Force Base is the main objective of the new Division Patch fund-raiser.

Hangar 25 Air Museum has started work on two wooden replicas that were represented at Webb.

“This is something that honors those who served at Webb, but it's also another way to bring in a little money to help keep the museum going,” Museum Administrator Genevieve Stockburger said.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• ISAAC NATHAN RIOS, 21, of 2911 W. Highway 80 Apt. 124, was arrested Monday on three warrants from other agencies.
• JESUS FLORES, 33, of 1802 Mittel Ave., was arrested Monday on a charge of driving while license invalid – DWI related.
• THEFT was reported:
In the 1800 block of Lancaster.
In the 300 block of S. Main Street.
In the 300 block of S. Main Street.
In the 400 block of E. Fourth Street.
• BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported in the 200 block of N.E. 12th Street.

Just Relay — that’s the theme for Relay For Life 2012.
“This year ACS (American Cancer Society) is encouraging us to go back to the basics and that’s what we are trying to do,” Howard Stewart, team coordinator chairman for Relay 2012, said.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• FREDDIE WILLIAMS, 38, of 2539 Gunter, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving while license invalid.
• AVEL ABREO RAMIREZ, 65, of 1512 Wood St., was arrested Saturday on a charge of public intoxication.
• CHAD EVERETT COLEMAN, 29, of 4400 N. Holiday Hill Rd. Apt. 915 in Midland, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
• DAWN MICHELLE TUBB, 34, of 511 E. 15th St., was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

20 indicted by grand jury

A Big Spring man was indicted Thursday by a Howard County grand jury on numerous charges stemming from the Aug. 22 chase and attempted shooting of local man that led to the invasion of a family’s home in the 500 block of State Street.
Brian Christopher Lewis, 27, currently being held at the Howard County Detention Center, was indicted on charges of deadly conduct (two counts, both enhanced first-degree felonies), unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon (two counts, both enhanced first-degree felonies) and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (first-degree felony, enhanced).

Heritage Museum to share a vintage Valentine’s Day

Heritage Museum will be showing its romantic side on Valentine’s Day.
In recognition of Valentine’s Day and the new Vintage Valentine exhibit, which will run through March 3, the museum will host an all-day reception.
“We are showing our romantic side at the Heritage Museum with this vintage exhibit,” Museum Director Nancy Raney said.
Part of the exhibit will show how wedding dresses have changed over the past hundred years. On display will be a wedding dress from 1894 and a dress from 1994.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Saturday:
• JOSEPH JUSTIN LAROCQUE, 33, of 1406 Runnels St., was arrested Thursday on warrants for theft of less than $50/shoplifting, failed to obtain Texas driver's license within 90 days and fail to appear (three counts).
• PAULA ISABEL LEOS, 30, of 1803 S. Owens St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of theft more than $50 and less than $500/shoplifting.
• MERRITA CHAMBERS, 59, of 511 NW Eighth St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.

‘Coming Home’ author schedules local book signing

“Coming Home” … not only what author, Kathleen Rigdon Highley is doing, but it's also the title of her new novel.

Highley — a West Texas native — was raised in Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School and Howard College. She will be on hand for a book signing at Inspirations Flowers and Gifts on Saturday, Feb. 11. Her book signing will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
