The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• STEVE RODRIGUEZ, 30, of 2110 Runnels, was arrested Thursday on a charge of harassment.
• CURTIS DEWAYNE WOODRUFF, 26, of 214 N. Johnson, was arrested Thursday on warrants for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone (two counts), no driver's license – when unlicensed and a warrant from another agency.
• MANUEL GONZALES, 23, of 1101 Grafa, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for accumulated items/weeds/rubbish.

Livestock show begins

Goats and lambs took the stage Wednesday during the Howard County Junior Livestock Show.

In the goat division there were two classes in each weight division. Coahoma FFA member Emilee Custer was named light weight division champion. She entered two goats, one in the Class 1, which took first place and weighed 64 pounds and the other in the Class 2 which placed fourth and weighed 75 pounds.

FISD board to appoint health council tonight

FORSAN — School district trustees here are expected to approve the appointment of a School Health Advisory Council when they hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. tonight in the administration wing board room.

SHACs are appointed to review and make recommendations on a wide variety of health-related activities, said Randy Johnson, Forsan Independent School District superintendent.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• ZABRINA FREEMAN LOZANO, 25, of 1302 Tucson, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while intoxicated – blood alcohol more than 0.15.
• KENDRA LYNN HARRISON, 41, of 605 S. Abrams, was arrested Wednesday on warrants for nuisance – animal repeatedly at large, driving while license invalid, failure to appear and a warrant from another agency.
• BRYANT ANTHONY PARRISH, 22, of 805 Crighton, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for theft 0 more than $500 and less than $1,500.

4B project will go to vote

Members of the Big Spring City Council may have mixed feelings about how to fund renovations to the municipality's water and wastewater facilities, but there's little doubt they agree the citizens should be allowed to vote on the issue as the panel unanimously approved first reading of a measure calling for a special 4B election to be held on the matter.

Attendance zones on BSISD agenda

Where's your student going to school next year?

Big Spring Independent School District trustees will hear a report on proposed new student attendance zones when they hold their monthly meeting at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the high school board room.

With four new elementary campuses being built and one campus — Bauer Elementary — scheduled for closure in the near future, BSISD's attendance zones and bus routes will have to be reworked for the 2012-2013 school year, Assistant Superintendent Danny Ferrell said.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• CARLOS G. DIAZ, 22, of 600 Johnson, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for open container in a motor vehicle – driver and expired registration.
• PALADIO GARZA JR., 30, of 3100 Webb Lane, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
• ALEXANDER QUINTANA, 31, of 610 N.W. Seventh St., was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for assault causing bodily injury.

Autopsy confirms ruling in Padron death

Preliminary autopsy results on a Big Spring man who died shortly after being found in a roadway last week confirm he was the victim of a hit and run accident, according to law enforcement officials.

Eleutario Torres Padron, 62, was discovered in the roadway by passerbys Thursday evening near the intersection of Sgt. Paredez and Trades Avenue on the city's north side, according to police reports.

Howard County Justice of the Peace Kathryn Wiseman said Monday preliminary autopsy results confirm Padron was struck by a vehicle before being left in the road.

County OKs jail expenditures

Howard County commissioners approved a number of routine items Monday, including a $1,300 expenditure at the county jail that will make it easier to house inmates, according to jail officials.

According to Jail Administrator Mike Dawson, the inability to isolate water sources in jail cells — specifically to showers and sinks — has made it tough to house a smaller number of inmates than designed for the areas.

However, some rather inexpensive valves and some plumbing know-how will fix that problem, Dawson told commissioners.

• WILLIAM SCOTT SIMPSON, 49, of 1300 Stanford, was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
• ARTHUR LYNN RICHARDSON, 48, of 906 Douglas, was arrested Monday on warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility (two counts) and speeding.
• JUAN ARNULFO CARDINA, 26, of 109 Algerita, was arrested Monday on a warrant for driving while intoxicated – open container.
