The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity Friday and early Saturday:
• PATRICK RIOS JR., 21, 610 S. Goliad, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
• CARLOS MATA JR., 49, 1216 E. 16th, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
• MARY HELEN MATA, 46, 1216 E. 16th, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
• LISA MARIE MENDEZ, 43, 2603 Ent, was arrested on a charge of of driving while license suspended/invalid with previous conviction.
• MARK CLINTON ROBERSON, 20, Plano, was arrested on three warrants for burglary of a vehicle.

Make that four new elementary schools in Big Spring Independent School District's future.
BSISD trustees unanimously voted (with one abstention) during their Thursday night meeting to proceed with plans to replace Moss Elementary with a new campus.
When voters approved a $60 million bond issue in May 2010, school officials originally intended to simply renovate Moss, the newest of the current BSISD elementary campuses (it was constructed in 1965) and build three new elementary campuses to replace existing structures at Washington, Goliad and Marcy.
Bibles will once again be welcomed at Big Spring High School.
A revamped Bible study class was approved by Big Spring Independent School District trustees during their monthly meeting Thursday night.
District officials say the new course will be more in line with state education code requirements, but a critic said it will be a “watered down” version of the course that has been taught at the school for decades.
Gone fishin'.
That's the sign several Greater Big Spring Rotary Club members will hang on their doors Saturday as the group hosts the third annual Kid's Fishing Tournament at Comanche Trail Lake.
Registration begins at 12:15 p.m. at the Dora Roberts Community Center. Signs will advise the young fishermen where to go once they arrive. actual tournament is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is for boys and girls age 17 and under.

• PHILLIP RENE ALCANTAR, 22, of 500 N. Runnels, was arrested Thursday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
• RANDY RAMIRO RAMIREZ, 27, of 407 Johnson, was arrested Thursday on a charge of possession of marijuana – more than four ounces, less than five pounds.
• COREY DALE DANCER, 27, of 2605 Alamesa, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for assault by contact.

Preliminary work has begun on a facility which water district officials hope will eventually add up to 2 million gallons a day to the area's water supply.
Crews have begun preliminary foundation work on Colorado River Municipal Water District's new raw water production facility at the intersection of FM 700 and 11th Place, said John Grant, CRMWD general manager.
Weather kept some from attending, but even a slightly abridged version of Howard County Day in Austin was a success Wednesday, organizers said.
Up to 100 county residents attended the semi-annual affair, which is designed to make state legislators aware of Howard County and its concerns.
Even more people were expected, but icy roads in Central Texas forced cancellation of several bus trips scheduled to leave Big Spring early Wednesday morning.
Nothing goes better with cold weather than a bowl of soup, except maybe multiple bowls of soup.
The 22nd Annual Great Texas Soup Cook-off is fast approaching. For two hours on Feb. 19, the aroma of soup will overtake the Martin County Community Center in Stanton.
Chefs from the Permian Basin will serve it out to try and obtain the title of best-tasting soup. The public will be able to sample the different soups from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• CHRISTOPHER BENNETT WOOTEN, 50, of 301 State, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while intoxicated – third or more offense.
• MARTIN ANTHONY RAMIREZ, 20, of 1601 Stadium, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.

The public will get a chance to sound off on whether Big Spring school officials should replace or renovate Moss Elementary.
A public hearing on Big Spring Independent School District plans for Moss will highlight this month's meeting of the BSISD Board of Trustees, scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the high school board room.
