Early balloting in the May 12 municipal and school district elections begins Monday with a proposed multi-million dollar 4B project expected to be a driving force in voter turnout.
Early voting will take place in the Elections Administration Office â€” located on the third floor of the Howard County Courthouse â€” between Monday and May 8, according to Saundra Bloom, county elections administrator.
Normal voting hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with special 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. extended hours scheduled Tuesday and Thursday.
Big Spring independent School District officials have announced registration times for parents wishing to enroll their children in 2012-2013 pre-kindergarten classes.
Pre3-K registration will be held from noon until 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Goliad Intermediate School return, will be required.
â€˘ The family is homeless.
â€˘ Parent is a member of the U.S. armed forces (military identification will be required).
â€˘ The child has been in foster care.
The following documents will be required at registration:
â€˘ Official birth certificate.
â€˘ Immunization records.
â€˘ Childâ€™s Social Security card.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday:
â€˘ ADAN CHAVERA, 42, of 600 Holbert, was arrested Friday on warrants for theft less than $50, failed to maintain financial responsibility, fail to appear.
â€˘ LORI ANN WRIGHT, 48, of 312 N. Main St., was arrested Friday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ GUADALUPE JR. LOMAS JR., 40, of 1405 Nolan St., was arrested on warrants for failed to maintain financial responsibility and fail to appear.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ CARLOS SANTANA YANEZ, 34, of Winters, Texas, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ FRANCISCO JAVIER PEREZ, 24, of Winters, Texas, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ MARIO RODRIGUEZ, 33, of Winters, Texas, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ RICKY RICARDO LOPEZ, 22, of 601 Caylor Dr., was arrested Thursday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
Tack another thing to do on your list this weekend. Dee's Trade Show is returning to the Howard County Fairbarn Saturday and Sunday. Doors will open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.
â€śThere will once again be unique items as well as homemade items,â€ť Denise McComb, co-founder of Dee's Trade Show, said.
Unfortunately, child abuse is an everyday occurrence, even in West Texas.
A World for Children partnered Wednesday with CASA of West Texas to hold a balloon release and awareness event on the courthouse lawn.

Volunteer firefighters battled a blaze west of Big Spring Wednesday that scorched hundreds of acres but did not result in any injuries or significant property damage.
A spark from a passing train is the likely cause of the fire, which began around noon Wednesday near Bates Road just west of the Big Spring city limits.
â€śAfter that, the winds picked up the fire and pushed it in several directions,â€ť said Tommy Sullivan, chief of the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department.
Part of Howard College's effort to reduce its reliance of city water supplies has become reality.
After several long months of testing and drilling, the college's Big Spring campus now has water wells that are operational and tied into the existing underground irrigation loop that previously carried raw water from CRMWD.

â€˘ DONALD RAY RODDY, 49, of Marlin, Texas, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ STOLEN VEHICLE was reported in the 400 block of S. Bell.

â€˘ ERICK SHERROD FRANKS, 37, of 1425 E. Sixth St. Apt. 34, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ JESSIE RAGELIO GAMEZ, 28, of 1605 Lincoln, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for safety belt â€“ child under 17 years of age, failure to appear (two counts) and driving while license invalid.
â€˘ JONATHAN ARISPE, 20, of 1325 Pine St. in Colorado City, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of theft of service â€“ more than $20 and less than $500.
