Having Fun and Giving Back - BSFD and Chaplaincy Corp hold United Way fundraiser

Having fun and giving back was the order of the day for Davis Knocke's 6th birthday.
The Chaplaincy corp with the help of the Big Spring Fire Department raised $300 for United Way all while giving Davis a birthday to remember.
“It was a blast,” said Fire Chief Carl Condray. “Everybody had a really good time.”
Although, the fire department inspired birthday isn't a routine event, Joel Miller of the Chaplaincy Corp hopes to make it an annual event.
Through a suggestion made by Miller's daughter-in-law, the chaplain approached the fire department about the idea.

Wall 65th Anniversary

J.C. And Dorothy (Davis) Wall of Big Spring celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary July 30, 2013.
The couple were wed in the home of J.C.'s parents in Snyder, Texas. J.C. And Dot will celebrate their anniversary in Rockport with their four children and spouses, 11 grandchildren and spouses, and 7 great-grandchildren with a total of 33 for the celebration. There will be lots of fishing, great food, swimming and fun for all the family to be together, ranging in age 88 to one year-old.

Rodriguez Birth

August 17, 2013

Helena Kimberly Rodriguez, a girl, was born May 10, 2013 at 5:08 a.m. She weighed 7 pounds 15.7 ounces and was 21 inches long.
She is the daughter of Samantha and David Rodriguez of Big Spring. Maternal grandparents are Becky Salgado and the late, Simon Alcantar. Paternal grandparents are the late Mary Rios and Moso Rios; and Thomas and Virginia Rodriguez.
Helena was welcomed home by big brothers, Brandon, Robert and Lee Rodriguez.

Barham Wedding

Kendal Layne Adams of Big Spring and Casey Barham of Archer City exchanged vows March 23, 2013, at Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring.
Kendal is the daughter of Ricky and Patti Adams of Big Spring and the granddaughteer of Sonya Swindell of Big Spring.
She is a Speech-Language Pathologist at United Regional Hospital.
Casey is the son of Charlie and Deniese Barham and the grandson of Joyce Barham and Donna Williams. He is a petroleum engineer.

Adopt A Hydrant comes to a close

The silent sentinels have been afforded new wardrobes thanks to some community minded Big Springers. Two hundred fire hydrants were adopted during the Adopt-A-Hydrant contest that ran from May 20 through July 31 with 168 contest entrants.
Judging took place Aug. 3, and cash prizes were awarded to the winners.
Winning entries in the adult division are: First place, Susan Holbert–Lester, $300 ; second place and $200 – the Watkins family; and third place and $100 – the DeLeon family.

Fowler - Baker Engagement

Joe and Cindy Fowler of Coahoma, Karen and Brian Moore of Big Spring and Jerry and Carlon Baker of Big Spring announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their children, K’Leigh Marae Fowler and Jeremy Tye Baker, both of San Angelo, Texas.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Ted and Eula Bell Fowler of Coahoma, James and Billie Proctor of Big Spring, the late George and Mona Moore of Big Spring and the late Ivan and the late Viola Stephenson of Plainview, Texas.

The Bookworm is Back

After a year's absence, Tana Kennemur, owner of The Bookworm, can put all the rumors to rest. The used store is once again open for business.
“There were a lot of rumors,” explained Kennemur, “But for personal and health reasons I had to close for awhile.”
Being away has given Kennemur a fresh outlook and renewed optimism about the store's future. Plans for changes are already in the works.
“I'm cleaning up and throwing out,” Kennemur said. Room for new books and an expanded Western section are among her many plans.

Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale Slated

Just say no to romance – novels.
The Friends of the library annual book sale is just around the corner and books are needed.
“We need books,” said Joann Staulcup of the Friends of the Library. “The book sale is coming up in September and we need donations.”
Although books of any genre or subject are welcome, the non-profit group are particular when it comes to certain aspects of the books they will take.

Twin girls born to Garden City couple

Jason and Amanda Flores of Garden City, Texas, are proud to announce the birth of their twin daughters, Ellie Lynn and Kendall Emilia.
 Ellie Lynn was born at 8:14 a.m. July 24, 2013, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring Texas, weighing 6 pounds. 2 ounces, and measuring 18 inches long. Kendall Emilia was born at 8:15 a.m. July 24, 2013, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring Texas, weighing 4 pounds 14 ounces and measured 17 in. long. 
Grandparents are Larry and Wendy George of Panhandle, Junior and Tina Moreno of Garden City and the late Jessie Flores.
