Â Editor's Note: Author Janet Rebhan was born and raised in Big Spring, Texas, an oil and military town where she also volunteered one summer at the Veterans Administration hospital. When she was 16, her family moved to Los Angeles, where she studied creative writing at UCLA and Moorpark College. She currently resides in Agoura Hills, Calif. â€śFinding Tranquility Baseâ€ť is her first novel.
Alana Jakas of Brighton, N.Y., and Wolfgang Robinson of Big Spring, Texas, will exchange wedding vows Sept. 28, 2013, in Cape Cod, Mass.
Alana is a 2004 graduate of Brighton High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Massachusetts. She is a food scientist at Mondelez International.
Wolfgang is the son of Michael and Monica Robinson. He is a 2003 graduate of Big Spring High School, a 2009 graduate of Portland State University and a 2012 graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law.
He is a judicial clerk to the Honorable Jose L. Fuentes, P.J.A.D.
Jon Cedric Islas and Amanda Lucy Sanchez along with their daughter Amelia Sara Islas would like to announce their engagement.
Jon is the son of Denny and Sandra Islas of Garland, Texas. He is the grandson of Mary Martinez of Abilene, Texas and the late Joe Anthony Lopez and Valentin and Inez Islas of Coahoma, Texas. Amanda is the daughter of Henry and Patsy Sanchez of Big Spring, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Saragosa Ochoa of Big Spring, Texas and the late Lucy Ochoa and Josephine Sanchez of Midland, Texas and the late Felix Sanchez.
L.K. (Clag) and Helen Gladden will close a 53-year-long chapter in their lives on August 1 when they leave Big Spring for their new home in League City, Texas. The Chapel Class of the First Baptist Church invites the community to join them for a sendoff party Friday, July 26, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Parlor.
Rikki Gilbert and Casey Roberts, both of Coahoma will exchange wedding vows Aug. 17,2013 at The Hardware Store and Courtyard.
Rikki is the daughter of Kevin and Debbie Gilbert of Coahoma. She is a 2013 graduate of Coahoma High School and is attending Howard College. She is employed by Basa Resources, Inc.
Casey is the son of Troy and Jamie Roberts of Coahoma. He is a 2011 graduate of Coahoma High School. He is employed by JWL Water Well Service, Inc.
Cadet John Lang, son of Mark and Kathy Lang of Orlando, Fla., graduated from the U.S. Military Academy May 25. He is the grandson of Bob and Peg Lang of Orlando, Fla., and of the late John Birdwell and Betty Birdwell of Big Spring, Texas.
Lang graduated from Boone High School in Orlando in 2009. While at West Point he concentrated his studies in sociology. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the infantry branch and will report to Fort Drum, New York, for his first assignment.
Kimberly Nalley of Big Spring and Bruce Finch of Lubbock, Texas will exchange wedding vows July 27, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas.
Kimberly is the daughter of John and Lynda Nalley and Belle and Bruce Schooler, all of Big Spring. She is a 2011 graduate of SWCID and is employed as office manager at Cornerstone Covenant Church.
Bruce is the son of Robert and the late Patsy Finch of Hart, Texas. He is a 2010 graduate of Wayland Baptist University and is a teacher at Slaton ISD.
Kathy Haro of Big Spring and Jeremy Hull of Stanton will exchange wedding vows Sept. 21, 2013, in Odessa, Texas. Kathy is the daughter of Henry and Delma Haro. She is a 2003 graduate of Big Spring High School. She attended Midland College where she majored in general studies. She is a 2007 graduate of Lubbock School of Aesthetics.
She is employed as a medical aesthetician at Medical Spa in Midland.
Ashley Cox, of Stanton, Texas and Matthew Van Pelt, of Vernon, Texas will exchange wedding vows at 2 p.m. July 6, 2013, at Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas with a reception to follow.
Ashley attended Wayland Baptist University and is employed by Big Spring ISD at Marcy Elementary. She is the daughter of Billy and Stephanie Cox of Stanton, Texas and the granddaughter of Vernon and the late Anita Cox and Deanna and the late David Burnett.
Kynzie Leigh Oliver, a girl, was born June 12, 2013 at Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas. She weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces and was 18 Âľ inches long. She is the daughter of Stephen and Natalie Oliver of Big Spring and the little sister of Kaden Oliver. Maternal grandparent is Cindy Lozano of Big Spring. Paternal grandparents are George and Becky Oliver of Big Spring, Texas and Alice and Don Moore of Fort Worth, Texas.
