Big Spring J. Elaine Burks Shapleigh will be honored for her accomplishments in aviation by the Bronze Eagle Flying Club of Texas at the Women in Aviation Gala on October 18th at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas, Texas.

Mariska Jacolby Huckabee, a girl, was born Sept. 11, 2013, at 8:03 p.m. She weighed 5 pounds 7 ounces and was 18 inches long.
She is the daughter of Sheri Walsh and Marty Huckabee of Big Spring. Maternal grandparents are Linda and Bill Zimmer of Phoenix, Ariz. Paternal grandparents are Richard Huckabee of Big Spring and Teresa Adams of Lake Isabella, Calif.
Mariska's siblings are Mariah Walsh, Mackenzie Walsh, Analicia Huckabee and Daisy Herrera.
Clifton (Gene) Woodard and Nora L. Woodard of Decatur, Ala., celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a trip to their hometown of Big Spring.
Clifton was born in Cullman, Ala., and was stationed at Webb Air Force Base. Nora was born in Monahans, Texas. The couple met at â€śThe Big M Drive-in.â€ť
The couple live in Alabama and are both retired. They are members of the Church of Christ. His hobbies include flying and old cars. Her hobbies include shopping at thrift stores, reading and said, â€śWhatever he enjoys, I am there.â€ť
A wise man once said, â€śLife is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.â€ť Technically it was his mother instilling a little wisdom on her son, and boxes of chocolate usually have a diagram on the inside of the lid, but we all understood the sentiment.
