Velma Campbell, 82, of Big Spring was surrounded by her family as she passed to her heavenly home Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born April 24, 1930, to Jewell and Orville Gressett in Sterling County, Texas. She grew up in Broom and has been in Big Spring most of her life.
Gary A. Harris, 69, of Big Spring died Thursday, Sep. 13, 2012, at the Hospice House. He will lie in state Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, and Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
He was born April 17, 1943, in San Angelo, Texas, to Marietta and J.B. Harris. He grew up in Water Valley and attended school there. He came to Howard County from Water Valley 12 years ago. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1960 until 1972. He had worked in the oil field but was a plumber by trade.
