Gerald F. “Jerry” Anderson, 70, of Big Spring died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Pastor Jim Binnix of Midway Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.

Carol Anderson, 66, of Stanton, formerly of Big Spring died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Stanton. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Myers & Smith Chapel with David Harp officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.

Vernon Permenter, 63, of Big Spring died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Memorial Park with Dr. Doug Shelley, pastor of East Side Baptist Church, officiating.
The Rev. J.B. Shewmake, a.k.a. "The Little Dutchman," 78, formerly of Tarzan, Texas, departed from this world and was received into heaven Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring.
Mrs. Billy Carl "Ruth" Bates of Coahoma, Texas, passed away to be with her Lord on Dec. 31, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Howard County beginning in 1955 and was a member of the Coahoma United Methodist Church for the duration of that time.
Nellie Ruth Backlin (Bates) was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Oakes, N.D., to Swedish immigrant parents. She was the eldest of five children born to Fredolf and Anna Backlin. She attended school at the Verner Community one-room country school house near the family farm through the eighth grade.
Mary F. Burt, 87, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Cotton officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
She was born Nov. 7, 1925, in Snyder, Texas, and married Jimmy G. Burt on Feb. 28, 1946, in Snyder, Texas. He preceded her in death Nov. 23, 2009.
