Elvira Cantu, 88, of Big Spring died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Bonnie âBunkyâ Griffis, 68, of Kerrville, formerly of Big Spring died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at her residence. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born June 24, 1944, in Big Spring to Clara and Lewis White. She moved to Kerrville in 2009. She was a cook and had been employed at Texas Instruments in Midland/Odessa.
L.C. Hurst, 83, of Big Spring died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment with Masonic rites will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
He was born Jan. 24, 1929, in De Kalb, Texas, and married Virginia Conley on May 3, 1966, in Denver City, Texas. She preceded him in death June 3, 1992.
Joe H. Whirley died at 12:55 a.m. Sept. 8, 2012, at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 91. He was born in Windom, Texas, on March 23, 1921. The Colorado City area was home to him in his youth and he was saved at the Dorn Chapel in 1937.
Anne Mary âIkeeâ Gray, or Mimi, 76, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at San Angelo Community Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. She was born June 24, 1936, in Garden City, Texas, to Young Claude âYCâ and Helen Gray. Mimi was the eldest daughter of the family.
Mimi received her bachelors in speech therapy, masters in audiology and PhD in psycho-linguistics. She was a woman pioneer in the 1970s. She founded Audio Acoustics and brought audiology to the small towns of west Texas. Later in life, she worked as a counselor in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.
Anacleto "Junior" Casas, 56, of Knott, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with M. Shawn Gary of the Knott Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 10, 1955, in Rio Grande City, Texas and married Zulema Villarreal Jan. 19, 1982 in Rio Grande City, Texas.
Mary Lou Morales, 67, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2012 at her home. Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at St. Annâs Catholic Church, Colorado City, with the Rev. Michael Udegbunam officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell County Cemetery, Colorado City.
She was a long time resident of Mitchell County, having lived in Colorado City for many years and later moving to Loraine to her most recent residence.
