Graveside services for Hannah Charlene Ables, 77, of Seagraves, Texas, will be held Monday, March 19, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Gaines County Cemetery in Seagraves with the Rev. Ronnie Lundsford officiating. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ables passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Memorial Health Care Center in Seminole, Texas. She was born May 19, 1934, in Oxford, Miss., to Cora (Keel) and J.D. Keel Sr. She was a Baptist. Hannah Ables was a resident of Seagraves for 58 years.
Ethel Mary Dunn Tarbet, a long-time resident of Dawson County and Lamesa, went to her eternal rest March 17, 2012, at the age of 101 years. Ethel was born Nov. 11, 1910, in Hamilton County, near the Leon River, to Eric V. Dunn and Jackie Alice Wright Dunn. She was the eldest of five children. The family moved from the Hico area to Dawson County in 1923. The family traveled 300 miles in two weeks by covered wagon, with Ethel, almost 13 years old, driving one of the two wagons.
Grady Malcolm Smith, 49, of Coahoma died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Coahoma Cemetery with Eddie Pitchford and Billy Sullivan officiating.
He was born Sept. 21, 1962, in Austin to Sandra and Grady Ross Smith. He grew up in Odessa, lived in Lubbock for a while and lived in Coahoma for more than 10 years. He was a plumber.
Gerry Marino, 60, of Big Spring died Friday, March 16, 2012, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Carroll Kohl officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born June 13, 1951, in Odessa to Beryle LaVerne and Grover Lee Simpkins. She grew up in Odessa and moved to Big Spring in 1972. She married Bill Marino in 1972 in Big Spring. She was a homemaker and was a member of Alive in Christ Lutheran Church.
M. L. Bertran Jr., 84, of Big Spring, died Thursday, March 15, 2012, in an Odessa hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. John McCullough, pastor of Berea Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born Feb. 23, 1928, in McCamey, Texas, and married Martha Genay Tuley on Sept. 29, 1949, in Dallas, Texas.
M.L. Bertran, 84, of Big Spring died Thursday, March 15, 2012, in an Odessa hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Gerry Marino, 60, of Big Spring died Friday, March 16, 2012, at her residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Wilma Oneta Riffe Kyle, 71, of Shepherd, Texas, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012. She was born in Shepherd, Texas, on Feb. 24, 1941, to Willie L. and Gladys Jewel Riffe.
Survivors include her son, Bendle G. Kyle Jr.; daughters, Chequita Kyle, Gladys Feaster and Vanessa Lee; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Fannie Overton, Sue Kautz and Linda Nolan; brothers, John, Charles, Archie and Robert Riffe; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lizzie Deanna; and brother, Billy Riffe.
Peggy Atchison, 82, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Big Spring died Monday, March 12, 2012, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Mount Olive Memorial Park with the Rev. Elwin Collom, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church, officiating.
MB Maxwell Jr., 87, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at an Abilene nursing center. He was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Brownwood, Texas, the son of Florence Gertrude (Massey) and Michael Berry Maxwell Sr.
He attended elementary school in Big Spring before finishing high school in Llano in 1943. Upon graduation, his family moved to Clyde where he met Joyce Jennings. They married in August of 1945. He served in the Army Air Corps and legally changed his name to MB (initials only) during that time.
