The Big Spring Lady Steers experimented a little bit in their 69-22 thrashing of Pecos Tuesday in Steer Gym.
In 10 games, head coach Mark Warren has already found out a lot about this year's squad. But he wants to know how versatile his offense can be no matter if defenses run man-to-man or the zone.
“I thought it would be a good night just to work on things just to see what's our best zone offense, what's our best press — we changed our presses up a little bit,” he said. “Just a lot of fun. It was a good game with everyone getting to play a lot.”

Greenwood avenged a loss to Big Spring in Andrews, so the Steers will look to get back on track with a win at Abilene Cooper at 7:30 p.m. today. Luke Adams is gaining a reputation as the Steers’ go-to player. Head coach Cliff Thompson said opponents are starting to key in on Adams. The senior and Tristain Clay have led Big Spring in scoring so far this season.

December 5th
SEYMOUR — It’s hard to catch Garden City head coach Vance Jones without a smile on his face after the Bearkats’ games.
It was no different after his team thwarted Follett 59-14 by halftime in the UIL Six-Man Division I semifinal in Seymour Saturday night.
Then again, it hasn’t been different for the last 28 games.
“I’m still soaking it in,” Jones said, clinching his sixth trip to a state title game and ensuring the Bearkats a chance to win a second consecutive title next week. “This is outstanding. I’m still on Cloud 9.”

ANDREWS — The Big Spring boys defeated Midland Classical 69-32 to wrap up play at the Gym Bice Classic. Luke Adams was key once again with 24 point in a winning effort. The Steers will stay on the road for a matchup against Abilene Cooper Tuesday in Abilene.

GARDEN CITY — The Garden City Bearkats are almost like rock stars after every playoff game, being mobbed by fans and supporters alike and showered with congratulatory messages and admiration.
“That’s one of the perks of winning,” head coach Vance Jones said. “Everybody loves a winner. They really enjoy the accolades they get from their family and their friends. It makes it all a lot more fun.”

LUBBOCK — At 10-1, not much should be bothering the Howard College men’s basketball team.
But there is one underlying problem bothering the Hawks: depth.
The Hawks have a break after their 107-46 win over Lubbock Christian Junior Varsity Thursday in Lubbock. They do not play until Dec. 31 in the Mesa Community College shootout.
Right now, however, they are down to eight players after Will Bunton was suspended this week for breaking team rules.
December 2nd
Area basketball teams will be booked solid starting today.
Most teams, including Big Spring, Coahoma and Forsan, begin their respective tournaments today, with hopes it serves as a gauge to where the team stands.
Both the Big Spring girls and boys will be in the Andrews Tournament, the Coahoma Bulldogs kick off their 25th annual tournament and the Forsan boys continue searching for their first win in the Garden City Tournament.

GREENWOOD — Cerbi Ritchey was the go-to player when it mattered most and Greenwood probably knew that.
The Rangerettes just couldn’t do much about it.
The Lady Steers edged Greenwood in a 45-41 victory on the road thanks to nine points in overtime , six of which were from Ritchey.
In total, Ritchey had 21 points and Mackenzie Stone had 11 to lead the way. Stone had a team-high seven rebounds and Diamond Mayes had six boards.
Mayes and Ritchey in the post is becoming a lethal combination for head coach Mike Warren.

The all-district honors for 5-3A volleyball were announced Tuesday and seven Big Spring players are represented on the list.
As a key component defensively for the Lady Steers, libero Valerie Ross nabbed top defensive specialist in the district. Setter/middle blocker Cerbi Ritchey, middle blocker Taylor Seaton and outside hitter Desiree Anderson made first-team all-district. These three were go-to players for kills this season.
