BSHS boys, girls hope to turn heads with win over Wylie

January 28, 2011

Big Spring girls’ basketball coach Mike Warren believes No.18 Abilene Wylie is due for an upset.

Of course, he was hoping his team would be the one to dish it out when Big Spring faced the Lady Bulldogs on the road to open District 5-3A.

Things didn’t work out so well for them thanks to Peyton Little and company, but the second meeting between the two teams at 6 p.m. today in Steer Gym may be the best chance to score that upset.

Lady Wranglers cruise past Hawks for 60-45 win

A bad shooting night didn’t stop Howard College from stealing a win on the road at Western Texas College Monday. But nights like those can’t happen against teams like Odessa.

The Lady Wranglers got easy buckets and Howard couldn’t answer back on a consistent basis in Thursday’s 60-45 loss.

Odessa had three players in double figures. Kiaherra Powell was hard to stop in the paint with 15 and Takoia Larry and Clarissa Davis had 14 apiece.

“We knew the key to winning was just getting it to them right away and being more aggressive,” he said. “Get them out of their game. We have guys who know how to play the play. We have coaches who know how to coach. We have players who make big plays.”
