Lady Steers to face Vernon in playoffs

October 27, 2011

The Lady Steers clinched a playoff spot this week, defeating Brownwood in four games. Big Spring grabs the runner-up position for District 5-3A and will face the Vernon Lady Lions, District 6-3A's third place finisher either Oct. 31 or Nov. 1 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs.

The Lady Steers fell behind in the first game, eventually falling by a close 23-25 score. The games did not get any easier, but the girls of Big Spring forced things to go their way, winning three straight games by scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 27-25.

Buffaloes collide

October 27, 2011

The future of the Forsan Buffaloes is sitting calmly in their own hands. This week, the 5-3 Buffaloes (2-2 in district) will take on Stanton in a clash of area teams looking to distance themselves from the herd and make the playoffs.

Idalou and Coahoma have already clinched a place at the table, though who gets to say grace will not be determined until the two teams finally meet Nov. 4.

It would be easy to look past Stanton for Forsan head coach Jason Phillips — and look at next week's match-up with Hawley (2-2) — but the Forsan helmsman knows better.
