Big Spring girls’ track coach Nick Roberson can’t hide the excitement when he talks about the team he has this year.
There’s talent across the board and a good mix of youth and experience.
“Our expectations for our team this year are at the highest level,” Roberson said. “I have one expectation for this team and that’s to be very successful. For years, I’ve been building. I haven’t had any senior leadership or any leaders to speak up. Now my young ones have grown up, and I’ve got some young ones behind them.”
Western Texas had nothing to play for in Thursday’s matchup against Howard College in Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
Sometimes those are the most dangerous teams.
The Hawks’ comeback was a little too late as they fell to the Lady Westerners 55-53 in WJCAC action.
More importantly, the loss ties Howard with New Mexico Junior College for the fourth and final spot for the Region V Tournament. Both teams are at 5-5.
