Henry signs with Cisco

February 4, 2011

Big Spring’s Tanner Henry signs on to play football with Cisco College Friday morning at the Athletic Training Center. Henry was accompanied by friends, coaches, teammates and family members. Before he signed, head coach Phillip Ritchey gave a speech. Also known as a force on defense with the Steers, Henry signed on to play offensive tackle for the Wranglers. Henry said he is excited to continued playing football at the next level.

BSHS swim team in Andrews for regionals

The Big Spring High School swim team looks to take the next step after a successful showing at the District 4-4A meet Jan. 21 and 22.

The regional meet begins today and ends Saturday at the Andrews High School Natotorium in Andrews and the young Steers are well-represented.

Caleb McMahon, Andrew Johnson, Eli Castillo and Seth Pearson represent the boys today in individual events. Megan Larson will be the lone girl representing Big Spring.

Weather putting dent in BSHS basketball season

Both the Big Spring boys and girls’ basketball teams have spent a lot of time battling the same opponent this week: the weather.

The snow and frigid temperatures already postponed Tuesday’s game at Sweetwater for both teams, leaving a whole week to prepare for Brownwood at home Friday.

But that was changed late Thursday after Brownwood coaches let Big Spring know they were not permitted to make the trip because of the harsh weather.

Hawk men's basketball gets win at South Plains, women fall

Howard College split games Thursday night in Levelland against South Plains.

The women weren’t able to build off a 65-49 win at Frank Phillips Tuesday, falling to the Lady Texans 58-54. The Howard men, however, beat the Texans 58-50.

The women fall to 18-6, 4-3 in conference play and the men sit second with a 16-6 mark, 6-2 in conference play.

The season is dwindling down for both teams as the fight for postseason spots continues. There are just six games left before the Region V Tournament.
