ANDREWS — The Big Spring Lady Steers are making a name for themselves as the 2011 track and field season continues.
The Lady Steers continued a strong season-long performance by claiming first place at the Max Goldsmith Relays in Andrews Friday.
Big Spring scored 193 points to easily win the varsity girls' division, out-pacing runner-up Andrews by almost 70 points.
The team's relays set the tone for the meet, as Big Spring swept all three events.
BROWNWOOD — Generosity has its limits.
The Big Spring Lady Steers gave up seven unearned runs, which was more than the Brownwood Lady Lions needed en route to an 8-2 win in District 5-3A softball action Friday night.
Brownwood was clinging to a 2-1 lead when it exploded for six unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to salt away the game.
Valerie Ross took the loss for Big Spring, which fell to 13-15 overall and 1-2 in district play.
