LUBBOCK — The Big Spring High School boys' golf team is part of a seven-team logjam at the top of the standings following first-day play at the Region I-3A tournament Wednesday.
The Steers are in fifth place with a team score of 327, eight strokes behind leader Borger and a mere three shots back of second-place Andrews. Glen Rose is third with a 325, followed by Levelland at 326. Big Spring and Abilene Wylie are tied with identical 327 scores.
The top two teams qualify for next month's University Interscholastic League state tournament in Austin.
ODESSA — Forsan High School's Kyle Stevenson and Sydney Holdampf are one win away from a trip to the state tennis tournament.
Stevenson and Holdampf, both juniors at FHS, each recorded two victories Wednesday to reach the boys' and girls' singles semifinal round, respectively, at the Region I-2A tennis tournament at Ratliff Stadium Tennis Complex.
Stevenson opened tournament play be defeating Cody Asbury of Ingram Tom Moore, 6-3, 6-1. He then knocked off Ricardo Chavez of Dimmitt, 6-0, 6-0 to reach the semifinals, where he'll face Jesse Guerra of Tornillo at 8:30 a.m. today.
