The Howard College softball team showed some rust from a long layoff in the first game of its doubleheader with Clarendon College Sunday, but rebounded in the nightcap to earn a split in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference opener for both teams Sunday afternoon.
Clarendon took the first game, 13-7, but Howard came back to take the second game by a 15-5 score.
The Hawks improved their record to 18-8 overall.
In the opener, Clarendon took advantage of ineffective Howard pitching to take the win.
LUBBOCK – During Sunday's Region V men's basketball tournament championship, two of the best junior college teams in the nation showed what they could do.
Unfortunately for Howard College, the South Plains College Texans could do a little bit more.
Behind an outstanding shooting performance from guard Marshall Henderson, the Texans rallied from a first half deficit to claim the Region V title with an 84-74 victory at Lubbock Christian University's Rip Griffin Center.
