Forsan seniors Sydney Holdampf and Kyle Stevenson have both been to the state tennis tournament in Austin before.
Although both of them were eliminated from play in the first round, they believe the experience will help them deal with the mental challenge of competing at such a level when they return to the University of Texas campus to take the courts once again April 30-May 1.
Holdampf and Stevenson played well throughout the year, leading Forsan to a first place finish in district and a second place showing at the regional meet where they each won in straight sets.
Big Spring High School's 21-year drought is over. That's how long it has been since a BSHS golf squad has made an appearance at the state golf tournament.
The Jimmy Clay Golf Course — one of the toughest in the state — in Austin awaits the team. As well as the top high school golfers in the state.
But if you ask Coach Chris Joslin, he would tell you that this is a special year on the links for the Steers golfers.
“All of the kids played really well all year,” Joslin said. It's an exciting time for Big Spring. We feel like all five guys are going to compete.”
Zeslie Johnson, Kali Jerrell and Brushea Daniels of Howard College signed letters of intent to play basketball at their respective future schools Wednesday in the Hawk Room at the Dorothy Garret Coliseum on the HC campus. Each of the student-athletes received full scholarships, and are ready to take their educations — as well as their game — to the next level.
Jerrell, who signed with Stephen F. Austin University, said she has enjoyed the change Big Spring offered her.
