Big Spring High School Softball Coach John Sparks got a first look at his full-strength squad Monday night, and liked most of what he saw.
For sure, he enjoyed the outcome.
Terra Keeney stroked a RBI double with two outs in the eighth inning to give Big Spring a 7-6 victory over Coahoma in non-district action Monday at the Lady Steer Softball Complex.
Considering it was a matchup of Howard County teams, perhaps it was only fitting that this one would play out like it did, with both teams rallying from deficits while displaying a flair for the dramatic.
ODESSA — The Howard College men's basketball team apparently decided it had had enough last-minute drama for now.
The Hawks, who came into Monday's Western Junior College Athletic Conference game with Odessa fresh off two nail-biting wins, watched the Wranglers rally to take the lead with seven minutes remaining.
Rather than watch this game go down to the wire, however, the Hawks responded with a closing run that gave them a somewhat comfortable 69-59 victory at the OC Sports Center.

One of the most storied rivalries in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference added an ugly chapter Thursday night.
Howard College defeated Midland College, 74-65, in a men's basketball matchup at Garrett Coliseum, but all anyone will remember about the game is a bench-clearing brawl that marred its final moments and resulted in several player ejections, at least two suspensions and MC having to finish the game with only four players on the court.

Five guys with a love for golf and the desire to help the community ended up creating a legacy that’s still making waves 40 years later.
Jimmy Marin, Gilbert Reyna, Nativade Nunez, Charlie Gonazles and Albert Gonzales all had a love for golf and the desire to help the community. Marin, the last one left of the Fab Five, is enjoying watching a legacy leave its mark.
Marin started playing golf in 1966 and a little more than 10 years later, he was part of something that would end up being bigger than he or any of the others could imagine — the Big Spring Chicano Golf Association.
Former Howard College baseball star Tyler Collins will be recognized during halftime ceremonies at the men's basketball game v.s Midland College tonight.
Collins, an outfielder for the 2010-2011 HC baseball team, will be on hand to officially receive his 2011 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Baseball Player of the Year award.

ANSON — Despite having to battle both a severe case of playoff nerves and a scrappy Burkburnett squad, the Big Spring Lady Steers are playoff winners for the first time in more than a decade, thanks a 34-33 Class 3A bi-district win at the Anson Sports Center Tuesday night.
