Garden City routs Hermleigh 75-41

February 21, 2013

Garden City cruised past Hermleigh on Tuesday, 75-41 in an area playoff match at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum, but the score doesn't accurately reflect just how hard the Cardinals fought.

The Bearkats had their hands full against a very physical Hermleigh team who played with a lot of heart, but couldn't keep up with state-ranked GCHS, who began pulling away late in the first period.

Corbin Davis scored 26 points for the Bearkats, while Sam Miller added 16, Juan Bustos put up 14 and Austin Odom had 10 for Garden City.

Avery's late 3 lifts Grady past Borden County

February 21, 2013

SEMINOLE — It was a tight game from the opening buzzer between Grady and Borden County on Tuesday, but a late three-pointer by Ellyn Avery lifted the Lady Wildcats past the Lady Coyotes, 58-55.

Tied at the half, Grady outscored Borden County 13-9 in the third quarter, but the Lady Coyotes rallied back in the fourth. Avery sank the game-winning basket — a 25 footer — with only six seconds left on the clock. Borden County managed to get off a shot, but Grady got the rebound as time expired.
