Steers stop Seminole

September 28, 2013

SEMINOLE — Every local football fan knows Big Spring has talent. From Tobyn Tannehill's gunslinging to Devin Roberson's versatility to Hunter Hill's explosive rushing, the Steers have proven they can put a lot of points on the board in short order.

Friday, Big Spring — now 4-1 — victimized Seminole (2-3) 45-14 after a dominant second half shut the Indians down in front of their home crowd at Wigwam Stadium.

Coahoma earns first win against Ballinger

September 28, 2013

BALLINGER — After four straight losses, the Bulldogs were able to hold their heads up high Friday after defeating Ballinger 22-13.

A team which is as young as a varsity team gets, Coahoma (1-4) used Head Coach Trey Gardner's Wing-T formation, ran the ball and played bend-but-don't-break defense to come out on top on the road — a momentous psychological boost, Gardner believes.

Buffaloes fight, but fall to 2A Crane

September 28, 2013

FORSAN — In their third straight game against a 2A opponent, the Class A Buffaloes (2-3) and Head Coach Jason Phillips is ready play a team in their division. Most recently, it was Crane who blasted Forsan 43-2 Friday.

Already dealing with injuries, the Buffs sustained even more against the undefeated Cranes, who boasted not only a depth advantage, but a size advantage over the smaller school.

Despite the lopsided score, Phillips saw a few good things from his ailing squad.

Big Spring spanks Lake View

September 14, 2013

Big Spring rebounded from last week’s loss to Midland Christian in dramatic fashion Friday as the Steers (2-1) pummeled San Angelo Lake View 48-0 in front of an energetic homecoming crowd to earn their second shutout in three games.

With freshman power back Preston Alexander sidelined with a foot injury, it was up to junior Hunter Hill and senior Jahari Vanover to assist quarterback Tobyn Tannehill from the backfield.

Stanton winner at battle of the Buffs with win over Forsan

September 14, 2013

STANTON — The Martin County Buffaloes came out on top Friday as they battled the Howard County Buffaloes. Stanton — who suffered a loss last year at the hands of Forsan — evened the score as SHS dominated FHS 35-6.

The depth and physicality on display by Stanton (2-1) was more intense than Forsan (2-1) had seen in its first two outings.

Coahoma loses to Colorado City on the road

September 14, 2013

COLORADO CITY — Coahoma dropped to 0-3 for the season Friday after a 45-8 loss on the road to Colorado City, but when you’re dealing with a team as young as CHS Head Coach Trey Gardner, you have to find the silver linings and build upon them.

One aspect of the game Gardner’s Bulldogs usually shine in is fortitude. Heart is rarely an issue for Coahoma teams and according to Gardner, it was on display Friday despite the lopsided final score.
