Title with Lady Steers’ reach

Many of the teams and athletes gathering this weekend at the University Interscholastic League’s Class 3A State Track and Field Championships in Austin know they don’t have a chance at winning a state title. That isn’t the case for the Big Spring High School Lady Steers 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams.
Both have very realistic chances of walking away from the meet with gold medals.

Lady Hawks place 6 on All-WJCAC softball team

The Howard College Lady Hawks may have seen their bid to earn a berth in the NJCAA softball World Series fall one game shy, but that didn’t mean the team didn’t impress on the field.
Proof the Lady Hawks were among the top squads on the field came earlier this week when six members of the Howard College squad were named to the Western Junior College Athletic Conference’s 2014 all-conference roster. The six were among 21 WJCAC softball standouts honored with postseason awards.

Big Spring to host 2A regional quarterfinal game

The Big Spring ISD Softball Complex will serve as the host site for the Class 2A regional quarterfinal playoff game between the Colorado Lady Wolves and Abernathy on Thursday, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

When it comes to the high school softball playoffs, the Coahoma Bulldogettes and Forsan Lady Buffaloes are familiar names. Both have won state championships and made extended runs in the postseason in recent years. Both will be looking to add an extra page to their history books this weekend when they kick off play in the regional quarterfinal round.

Hawks to face NCTC in Region V tournament opener

The Howard College Hawks, fresh off a four-game sweep of the Odessa College Wranglers, will kick off their bid to earn a spot in the 2014 NJCAA World Series this weekend when they join eight teams in the Region V Baseball Tournament. The tournament will be played May 9-14 at the Texas Tech baseball complex.

BSHS All-Sports Banquet scheduled for May 16

Big Spring High School athletic parents and fans will get a chance to see their favorite athletes honored on May 16 when the school holds its annual All-Sports Banquet on May 16. The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the BSHS cafeteria.

Lady Hawks’ bid for Region V title falls short

Odessa College broke open a 1-1 deadlock by pounding out eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and raced to a heart-rending 9-1 victory in the Region V West Softball Championship game in front of a large crowd at the Texas Tech softball complex.

Panthers end Steers’ playoff run

SAN ANGELO – The Fort Stockton High School Panthers completed what may down as the biggest upset since David knocked out Goliath on Saturday afternoon at the San Angelo Central field. Maybe it was even bigger than that.

Steers strand 11 in 5-1 playoff loss

SAN ANGELO – The Big Spring High School Steers didn’t have any problem putting runners on base on Thursday afternoon at San Angelo Central’s Bobcat Stadium in the opening game of their best-of-three bi-district playoff series with the Fort Stockton High School Panthers. They had 12 runners reach base in the game.
While getting on base may not have been a problem, getting those baserunners home was.
