Stephenville ends Steers' season

November 29, 2014

ABILENE – For Stephenville quarterback Jarrett Stidham, Friday’s playoff matchup with the Big Spring Steers was a chance for a little payback.
In October, Big Spring knocked Stidham out of the game in their first meeting. On Friday, Stidham threw for 277 yards and rushed for 166 and three touchdowns and knocked Big Spring out of the postseason by leading a 59-32 victory in front of a packed crowd at Shotwell Stadium in the third round of the Class 4A Division I regional quarterfinals.
The loss ended a stellar season for the Steers.

Steers get last laugh with win over Andrews

November 22, 2014

ODESSA – The Andrews Mustangs beat the Big Spring Steers in everything this high school football season. Andrews was the first team to win 10 games. They were the first to celebrate a win of Homecoming night. And on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Ratliff Stadium, the Mustangs were the first team to make it to basketball season.
Nathan Schneider and a rejuvenated Steers defense made sure of that with a gutsy performance en route to leading Big Spring to stunning 48-34 victory in an area playoff showdown.

Make no mistake about it, the 2014 high school football season comes down to one game for four Crossroads teams as they face win-or-go-home playoff matchups.

“It’s a one-game season for everyone now,” said Big Spring head coach Phillip Ritchey. “This is what we worked for all year. We’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Big Spring will be playing in one of the state’s marquee matchups, in one of high school football’s most-historic sites when they face off against longtime rival Andrews in Odessa’s Ratliff Stadium.

Lady Steers put 7 on 2-4A all-district squad

November 19, 2014

Heading into the 2014 high school volleyball season, Big Spring head coach Lynn Osborn said she believed the Lady Steers had the talent to make a serious run at the Class 4A state playoffs. The Lady Steers more than proved their coach right this fall, going 22-20 and advancing to within two games of the state tournament.
In the process, the Lady Steers made believers of every one else in the District 204A race. The proof of that came earlier this week when the coaches released the 2014 all-district selections.
