Lady Hawks look to get hot as Region V tourney starts

Howard College Lady Hawks’ head coach Kelly Raines is happy her team posted a 43-11 record during the 2014 regular season. She’s even happier they went 24-4 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play and finished second in the overall conference race. Neither of those two things are important now. The only thing, she said, that matters is playing well at tournament time.

Steers to begin playoff run

The Big Spring High School Steers will kick off their postseason efforts this afternoon when they face the Fort Stockton High School Panthers in the bi-district round of the Class 3A state playoffs. The two teams will begin their best-of-three series starting at 4:30 p.m. at San Angelo Central’s field in San Angelo.

Roberson finishes in top 20 at state

Big Spring High School standout Devin Roberson fired a final round of 88 on Tuesday and finished in a three-way tie for 16th place at the 2014 Class 3A state golf tournament, which was held at the Hyatt Resort Lost Pines’ course.

The Howard College Hawks can create some positive vibes this weekend when they close out their 2014 regular season with a home-and-away series with the Odessa College Wranglers. And a little positive feelings heading into the 2014 Region V West Baseball Tournament wouldn’t exactly be bad. Especially with a run at the JUCO World Series hanging in the balance.
