The Forsan High School Lady Buffaloes can officially get into the playoff mode now. After days of endless waiting, the state-ranked Lady Buffaloes learned who it will face in the first-round of the Class A softball state playoffs this weekend.

The Howard College Lady Hawks slipped to No. 17 in the latest NJCAA Division I baseball poll. Howard College, now 32-14 for the season, fell five places in the rankling over the past week. The team had been ranked No. 12 in last week’s poll.

Big Spring, the District 4-3A runner-up, will begin its playoff run on May 1 when they face the Fort Stockton Pioneers in a best-of-three series at San Angelo Central High School.

Lobos, Mustangs to play for third

The Monahans Lobos and the Sweetwater Mustangs will play a one-game district playoff on Friday to determine the third- and fourth-place teams in the District 4-3A standings. Both teams finished the district schedule with 5-5 records. The one-game playoff will be held Friday at Steer Park, starting at 7 p.m.

Big Spring athletes face very busy schedule at Region I-3A track meet

There will be no shortage of sportage for the Big Spring High School boys’ and girls’ track athletes beginning Friday when the Region I-3A Track and Field Championships begin in Lubbock. More than a dozen BSHS athletes will be competing in the meet, which will be held on the track at Texas Tech University.

The Wylie Bulldogs used a 5-fun outburst in the bottom of the second inning on Tuesday in Abilene to race to a 10-5 victory in the final regular season game for both squads.

Hawks claim 7-6 win over Chaps

The Howard College Hawks’ baseball team scored a run in the top of the eighth inning on Tuesday and then held on to claim a tough 7-6 victory over the Midland College Chaparrals in Western Junior College Athletic Conference action at Christensen Stadium.

Bulldogettes to kick off playoff run against Post on Thursday
