Bulldogs rally past Stanton, 27-20

October 18, 2014

STANTON – With 27 seconds on the clock and the score knotted at 20-20, Coahoma High School head coach Trey Gardner could have played it safe on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Buffalo Stadium in Stanton.
Taking a knee on third down at their own 32 would have likely meant a fourth-down punt and, in all likelihood, capped a 13-0 second-half run by the Bulldogs that could have led to an overtime period against Stanton.

McCamey stuns Forsan in OT

October 18, 2014

Heading into the week, Forsan High School head coach Jason Phillips said he expected an all-out battle from the McCamey Badgers on Friday night, and that his team would need to stay focused and put together four solid quarters of play to win.
By all accounts, the Buffaloes did just that on Friday night in McCamey.
Unfortunately for Forsan, the game went five quarters.

Minter, Seniors rush to Powder Puff championship

October 17, 2014

The 2014 Big Spring High School Powder Puff Championships featured a little of everything on Thursday night at Memorial Stadium. Guys in skirts, texting referees and cheerleaders scoring touchdowns.
Through it all, Shaylee Franks. Autumn Minter and Jackie Castillo just wanted the ball. So the Seniors gave it to them. It proved to be a wise move by Seniors coaches Matt Yanez, Dee Parker and Charlie Boling. All Franks, Minter and Castillo did was lead the Seniors to a 14-0 victory over the Sophomores in the finals.

Steers open 3-4A play with rout of Tigers

October 11, 2014

SNYDER – The Big Spring High School Steers knew heading into their showdown with the Snyder Tigers that they needed two things. They needed to play better defensively and they needed a win in order to get their District 3-4A schedule off to a good start.
The Steers accomplished both goals in grand fashion on Friday night.

October 11, 2014

The Sands High School Mustangs always knew they could move the ball and put up points. It was just a matter of when everyone would get healthy and click at the same time. That time came on Friday night in Loop.

Buffaloes run down Anthony

October 11, 2014

Normally, the Forsan High School Buffaloes like to spread the ball around, using a spread attack to generate astronomical numbers. Friday’s District 2-3A opener at Buffalo Stadium was anything but normal.

Andrews’ late rally sends Big Spring to first loss of the year

October 4, 2014

To be sure, when the final buzzer sounded on Friday night in front of a large homecoming crowd at Memorial Stadium, Big Spring High School head football coach Phillip Ritchey was anything but pleased with his team’s 43-42 loss to the Andrews Mustangs.
Ritchey, however, wasn’t prepared to scream the sky was falling, or that the Steers were a product of smoke and mirrors.

Harris, Murillo help power Steers past Andrews, 26-8

October 3, 2014

You’ll have to forgive the Andrews Junior High School head coaches if they happened to search their bus several extra times prior to leaving Big Spring on Thursday night to make sure C.J. Harris and Isaac Murillo were hiding somewhere. To be sure, they saw all of the two they wanted.

Lady Steers can move into sole possession of 2-4A lead on Saturday

October 3, 2014

The Big Spring High School Lady Steers can go a long way into putting themselves in the driver’s seat in the District 2-4A volleyball race on Saturday with a win over Levelland. They can also pretty much guarantee themselves a postseason playoff berth at the same time.
