Hawks take out Hutchinson 92-69

March 20, 2013

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Howard College men’s basketball team had never seen a crowd like they did Tuesday at the National Junior College Athletic Association championship tournament as they were tasked with facing the hometown team — Hutchinson Community College (31-2) — which was in the national tourney for the first time since 1997.

But, the Hawks have some big time players who made some big time baskets down the stretch to take a commanding lead they wouldn’t relinquish and removed the Blue Dragons from the bracket with a 92-69 win.

It was a tight game for 30 minutes.

Steers, Buffaloes win district baseball openers

March 20, 2013

Big Spring
SNYDER — Big Spring Head Baseball Coach Bert Otto’s team is off to another good start.

Using a little small ball, patience and luck, the Steers won their district opener on the road against Snyder by a score of 2-0.

Both teams’ bats were quiet to start off, when in the top of the fourth inning, Haegan Rodriguez led off with a stand-up triple.

Gunnar Kennedy then hit a ball hard to the Tigers’ short stop who committed a throwing error, allowing Rodriguez to cross home plate and Kennedy to advance to second base.

Big Spring
SNYDER — District play has been full of ups and downs for Big Spring — and it’s only the first week.

After a 12-2 run-rule victory over Wylie to kick off 4-3A action, the Lady Steers lost by the same score to Snyder on Tuesday, also in run-rule fashion.

“They did to us exactly what we did to Wylie,” BSHS Head Coach John Sparks said.

March 11, 2013

But he made it, putting the Thunderbirds up 60-59.

March 7, 2013

COAHOMA — It was a tough season for the young Bulldogette hoops squad (4-11, 1-4), but like many other Crossroads area sports teams, they are young and full of promise.

And that's not just coachspeak either. Three CHS basketball players were selected to represent the school and they are all underclassmen — a good sign of things to come, according to Head Girls Basketball Coach Paul Hartman.
