GARDEN CITY â Garden City head coach Vance Jones remembers the last time his Bearkats lost vividly.
It was to Throckmorton in the beginning of the 2009 season and Jones remembers his players naturally being upset.
More good than harm came from that loss, though.
âThat loss was probably our motivation to work harder to get to play them again,â Jones said. âAfter the game, they said âCoach, we can beat them.â They worked hard and that was the driving engine that helped us get to that point and once we beat them, we said âHey, maybe we have a shot to go all the way.â

Big Spring guard Luke Adams wasnât fully aware how big his performance against Odessa Permian was on Nov. 19. Forty-two points was far from where he thought he finished.
âI really didnât,â the senior said. âThatâs the crazy thing about it. I didnât even know how many. I probably thought I had 20, maybe 25.
âI guess when youâre playing to win, you donât really care about points. You just care whatâs on that scoreboard.â
Maybe itâs that mindset that has opponents taking notice of Adams.

The Big Spring Lady Steers experimented a little bit in their 69-22 thrashing of Pecos Tuesday in Steer Gym.
In 10 games, head coach Mark Warren has already found out a lot about this year's squad. But he wants to know how versatile his offense can be no matter if defenses run man-to-man or the zone.
âI thought it would be a good night just to work on things just to see what's our best zone offense, what's our best press â we changed our presses up a little bit,â he said. âJust a lot of fun. It was a good game with everyone getting to play a lot.â

Greenwood avenged a loss to Big Spring in Andrews, so the Steers will look to get back on track with a win at Abilene Cooper at 7:30 p.m. today. Luke Adams is gaining a reputation as the Steersâ go-to player. Head coach Cliff Thompson said opponents are starting to key in on Adams. The senior and Tristain Clay have led Big Spring in scoring so far this season.

SEYMOUR â Itâs hard to catch Garden City head coach Vance Jones without a smile on his face after the Bearkatsâ games.
It was no different after his team thwarted Follett 59-14 by halftime in the UIL Six-Man Division I semifinal in Seymour Saturday night.
Then again, it hasnât been different for the last 28 games.
âIâm still soaking it in,â Jones said, clinching his sixth trip to a state title game and ensuring the Bearkats a chance to win a second consecutive title next week. âThis is outstanding. Iâm still on Cloud 9.â

ANDREWS â The Big Spring boys defeated Midland Classical 69-32 to wrap up play at the Gym Bice Classic. Luke Adams was key once again with 24 point in a winning effort. The Steers will stay on the road for a matchup against Abilene Cooper Tuesday in Abilene.

GARDEN CITY â The Garden City Bearkats are almost like rock stars after every playoff game, being mobbed by fans and supporters alike and showered with congratulatory messages and admiration.
âThatâs one of the perks of winning,â head coach Vance Jones said. âEverybody loves a winner. They really enjoy the accolades they get from their family and their friends. It makes it all a lot more fun.â
Follett, the Bearkatsâ opponent for the UIL six-man football semifinal
at 8 p.m. Saturday in Seymour, wonât be looking at Garden City with
LUBBOCK â At 10-1, not much should be bothering the Howard College menâs basketball team.
But there is one underlying problem bothering the Hawks: depth.
The Hawks have a break after their 107-46 win over Lubbock Christian Junior Varsity Thursday in Lubbock. They do not play until Dec. 31 in the Mesa Community College shootout.
Right now, however, they are down to eight players after Will Bunton was suspended this week for breaking team rules.
