Steers fall in Monahans

September 17, 2011

Enough can not be said about the Big Spring defense again this week. The eventual 39-3 loss to Monahans Friday night says nothing of the great stands made by the Steers throughout the game, but the stand together strength was evident all the same as Big Spring held the high-powered Loboes to three points — and really only one decent drive — until the two minute mark of the second quarter.

Ladies Golf Association results

September 16, 2011

In a recent nine-hole team scramble, members of the Comanche Trail Ladies Golf Association continued their trend of taking it down to the wire.

While there was a clear winner, with the team of Jerry Roach, Annie ward, Paul and Dee Jenkins shooting four under par, a three-way tie had to be sorted out to determine second place.

A scorecard playoff, going to the fourth handicap hole, was used and second place was eventually grabbed by Jimmy and Deanna Foresyth, along with Bill and Bobbie Holden.

September 8, 2011

When Savannah Neff went on her coach's Facebook page and read of the grief and concern being poured out from someone she respected and appreciated, she knew something had to be done to help. The Coahoma High School sophomore came up with an idea. After talking with Coach Mitzi Bell to get permission, the Bulldogette basketball player and her teammates are organizing a donation drive to help the families whose lives have been uprooted by the current fires in Bastrop.

Steers take tough loss

August 30, 2011

The Big Spring Steers kicked off their 2011 season in a tough defensive battle against Fort Stockton Friday night. In spite of moving the ball well and smothering the Panther offense, the Steers ended the night on the short end of a 7-6 game.

After falling behind 7-0 in the first frame, the Steers had to play catch-up the rest of the game and it wasn't until there was only 2:09 left in the game, following a long, sustained drive, that Michael Oliva pounded his way into the end zone for what appeared to be a game-tying score.

Coahoma falls

August 26, 2011

Even a storm strong enough to delay the start of the game for an hour and a half was not enough to keep things cool in Midland Thursday night, as tempers flew late in the game between Coahoma and Greenwood.
A bad call by the refs, a personal foul and, for a moment, it looked like both sidelines were going to meeting the middle of the field. However, cooler heads prevailed and the last two minutes of the game were played out, leaving Coahoma on the short side of the 50-35 tempest.

Steers hope to stop running Panthers

August 25, 2011

Two-a-days are over, scrimmage games are over and football, real football has returned to Big Spring.
The Steers will be hosting the Fort Stockton Panthers this Friday night as the 2011 campaign gets under way. Coming off of last year's disappointing 5-5 season, the Big Spring bunch hopes to get this year off to a good start. Last season, the Steers handled the panthers without too much trouble in a 20-0 road win.
