J.T. Breyman and J.P. Stevenson made sure their tennis seasons didnâ€™t come to a premature end this past weekend. The Forsan standouts punched their ticket to the Class A state tennis tournament by pounding out an impressive outing at the Region I-1A Tennis Championships on Thursday at South Plains College.
The members of the Big Spring High School boysâ€™ and girlsâ€™ track and field teams will begin their attempts at qualifying for the state track meet on Friday morning when the 2014 Region I-3A Track and Field Championships get under way.
On the track, Charles Green sprinted down the course at Rotary Field on Thursday with more than enough speed to cross the finish line in first place. On paper, however, he didnâ€™t fair quite as well as District 3-4A Area Track and Field Championships.
A scorerâ€™s mistake left Green listed as the seventh-place finisher in the 100-meter hurdles â€“ and a long way from qualifying for the Region I-3A Track and Field Championships.
In the end, not even being seventh on a piece of paper could stop the BSHS senior from making his second straight trip to the regional meet.
The Big Spring, Coahoma and Forsan track and field teams will be in action this coming weekend, competing in their respective regional meets.
Big Spring will be competing in the Region I-3A meet on Friday and Saturday at Texas Tech University it Lubbock.
Forsan will be at South Plains College in Levelland to participate in the Region I-1A meet, while Coahoma will be competing in the Region I-2A meet at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.
The Howard College Lady Hawks completed a four-game sweep of the Midland College Lady Chaparrals on Saturday by taking both ends of a doubleheader in Midland by the scores of 5-3 and 3-2, respectively.
PECOS â€“ The Big Spring High School Lady Steers relay teams expected tougher races this week as they headed in to the District 3-4 3A Area Track and Field Championships. The teams advancing are supposed to be tougher, right?
A challenge in any of the three relay events never came Thursday at Rotary Field.
PECOS - Ryan Lopez never got in too big of a hurry during the first lap of the boysâ€™ 800-meter run on Thursday at the District 2-4 Area Track and Field Championships at Rotary Field. He was perfectly content to let the other seven runners in the field set the pace for the first 500 meters of the race.
It was the last 300 that concerned him most.
The Howard College Lady Hawks will begin their stretch run to the regional tournament this afternoon when they kick off a 4-game series with Midland College. The HC women will host the Lady Chaparrals this afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m. for two games at Foundation Field.
The Big Spring High School boysâ€™ and girlsâ€™ track and field teams could be in for an enjoyable day at the Area Track and Field Championships this afternoon in Pecos. The two teams head into the meet with a bevy of athletes that are favored to contend for victories in their respective events.
The Forsan Buffaloes scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Miles Bulldogs in front of a large crowd at the Forsan ISD field.
