Rotarians' annual duck race Saturday

The McEwen Family Aquatic Center will be overrun with ducks Saturday — hundreds of plastic ducks.

Not to worry, though, this friendly invasion is for a good cause — the Greater Big Spring Rotary Club's annual duck race will raise money for the Isaiah 58 food bank and other local charities.

And if the duck you purchase is one of those "trapped" during Saturday's race, you could win, also.

Don't Forget - BSJHS host registration/orientation tonight

Big Spring Junior High School will hold orientation/registration tonight. Seventh graders pick up schedules at 5:30 p.m. Eighth grade schedules pick up is at 7 p.m. Parents and students should meet in the gymnasium to pick up the necessary paperwork.

Big Spring Junior High School will be holding a orientation/registration night Tuesday. Seventh graders will pick up schedules at 5:30 p.m. and eighth graders can pick up their schedules at 7 p.m. Parents and student should meet in the gymnasium to pick up the necessary paperwork.

Chamber hosting teacher/staff appreciation today
Chamber of Commerce members are hosting a welcome back to school event for Forsan ISD teachers, administrators and staff at 1 p.m. at Forsan High School. The purpose of the event is for Chamber members to thank the teachers for their dedication to educating area students and to wish the faculty and staff good luck for the upcoming year.
Chamber members were on hand in Coahoma earlier this morning and hosted a welcome back event for Big Spring teachers last Monday.

Chevalier CASA volunteer sworn In to advocate for abused children

The Hon. Sylvia A. Chavez, of the Child Protection Court of the Permian Basin swore in Sherrie Chevalier of Coahoma, and seven other Permian Basin residents as Court-Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children last Monday.
Family and friends gathered in the Midland County Courthouse to watch the volunteers take an oath promising to advocate for the best interest of the child.

History buffs find A purrfect cause

A new guard is roaming the grounds of Alamo and a Coahoma couple hopes to help make her stay at the Texas historical site as comfortable as possible.
Photographers and writers Greg and Toni Bodin, who both contribute monthly articles for the Living Magazine, are holding a cat food, litter drive for the newest Alamo cat, Miss Isabella “Bella” Francisca Veramendi de Valero.
It was by chance the two found they had a connection to the famous feline.

"Hold the line," anthem sung at BSISD tax hearing tonight

Five people spoke at the Big Spring ISD tax hearing held earlier this evening asking trustees to “hold the line” on a tax increase. Although only five people were physically present, several of the speakers listed a series of names of people they represented who were also requesting trustees not to approve higher taxes for 2015 collection year. Trustees will hold a second public hearing on Aug. 27 over the matter.
