Lee Roy Findley

November 19, 2014

Lee Roy Findley, 90, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, in Century, Fla.

He was a native of Big Spring, Texas, and a resident of Century, Fla., for most of his life. Mr. Findley was a World War II veteran, former member of Airport Baptist in Big Spring and a long-time member of the Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruthie Hawthorne Findley; sisters, Lois Jernigan, Mary Wells and Mattie Ruth Ohlson; and brothers, Cecil Findley, Garland Findley and James Findley.

Vada Maxwell, 83 of Big Spring died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, in Monroe, N.C. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Miami QB Ryan Tannehill threw 2 second half touchdowns to rally a comeback victory over Buffalo. Buffalo was moving the ball up and down the field early, but could not seem to find the end zone to cap drivers. They clung to a 9-3 lead as they kept Miami in check. Tannehill was able to rally his team’s offense to score 19 unanswered points to seal the game and second place in the AFC East.

BSISD honors veterans with Jeans for Troops

Big Spring ISD honored Veterans Day and the men and women who have died defending our country by raising funds for military veterans and their families.

Last week, teachers took part in the 2014 “Jeans For Troops” fundraising drive benefiting the GI Go Fund, a nonprofit organization that helps veterans returning home find employment, go to college, access their health care and financial benefits, and link to housing.

Thursday’s Empty Bowls to benefit local United Way

Empty Bowls VIII will be held from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dora Reberts Community Center.

The United Way fundraiser is sponsored by Big Spring Independent School District and Howard College art departments and H-E-B.

Tickets are $20 each and are available at the United Way office, 215 W. Third St.

Harvey 'Don' Ellison

Harvey "Don" Ellison, 54, of Westbrook, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 in a Lubbock hospital. No services are planned.

Don was born Dec. 27, 1959, in Eastland, Texas and married Shaw Dick June 8, 2013, in Mesquite. He worked in the oilfield as a floorman.

Don is survived by his wife, Shaw; stepchildren, Joyce Creel, Johnny Jones, Jody Jones, Sherrie Jones, Joseph Nabors and Justin Nabors; and numerous grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Wayne Ridgeway

Kenneth Wayne Ridgeway, 71, of Midland, went to be with his Heavenly Father Nov. 15, 2014. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.

Playoff tickets go on sale on Wednesday

Playoff tickets for the Big Spring Steers' area playoff matchup with the Andrews Mustangs will go on sale on Wednesday at the ATC. Tickets can be purchased for $6 for adults and $4 for students.
Big Spring and Andrews are scheduled to play their second-round playoff contest on Friday, at 7 p.m. at historic Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.
The Steers enter the game at 8-2. Andrews is 10-1.

Texans advance to Super Bowl

The Big Spring Texans celebrated following their recent win that will send the team into the Big Spring Youth Football League’s Division II championship game on Nov. 22. The Texans are scheduled to play the Big Spring Cowboys in the championship game, which will get under way at 3:45 p.m. at Blankenship Field.
