Oliver Benjamin Nichols Jr. (Bud), 80, of Big Spring, Texas died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2014, at the First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Calvary Callender and the Rev. James Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Clinton 'Doyle' Hobbs

Clinton “Doyle” Hobbs, 75, of Big Spring, Texas, formerly of Roswell, N.M., died peacefully in his home, Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Doyle was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Lake Arthur, N.M. to Clinton and Oleta Hobbs. He married Caroline Franklin Dec. 30, 1955 in Roswell, N.M..

He is survived by his wife, Caroline and their children. Jerry and Carlon Baker, Tim and Marty Helmstetler, David and Lisa Hobbs; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings Wesley and Jeanette Hobbs, Barbara and Stanley Griffin, Gary and Lunell Gilley, Barbara Crosby and their extended families.

Bettie Greenwade Bedell

Bettie Greenwade Bedell, 93, of Big Spring, Texas, died Wednesday March 19, 2014 at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center. Graveside services were held in the Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel at 11 a.m. today with Dr. Doug Shelley of Eastside Baptist Church officiating.

Officials urge citizens to go easy on water use

As warmer weather creeps slowly into the Crossroads area, Big Spring city officials reminds residents to think “conservation” when using water to help with dwindling supplies.

Currently, the city is on Stage 2 restrictions where it concerns water usage for area residents.

Come rain or shine, fishing tourney will be held

March 20, 2014

Neither rain, sleet or a sunny day will stop the Sixth Annual Trout Fishing Tournament this time.

“We are going to have the tourney this weekend. Even if it rains, sleets or it is sunny. Even if there is no one else out there, I’ll be there fishing,” quipped Ken McIntosh, event organizer.

The tournament will be held Saturday at Comanche Trail Lake.

Tom Fread Rountree

Tom Fread Rountree, age 88, passed away March 17, 2014.

He was born Nov. 5, 1925, in Dawson, Texas. He served in the 390th Bomb Group of the Army Air Corp in WWII as a tail gunner in a B-17. He was a longtime resident of Big Spring, Texas, where he worked for Texas Electric until retirement. He enjoyed farming and ranching in Big Spring, and enjoyed working in his pecan orchard. He moved to Eddy in 2004 and took great enjoyment from time spent with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pat 'Mimi' Richardson

March 20, 2014

Pat "Mimi" Richardson, 73, of Big Spring, died Monday, March 17, 2014 in a Midland hospital. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.

She was born Dec. 2, 1940 in Dialville, Texas. Pat came to Big Spring in 1977 from East Texas and briefly worked as a nurse. Her main job was caring for her grandson, Dillon. She enjoyed fishing and dancing at the Senior Center.

Ruby Jean Hooser

March 20, 2014

Ruby Jean Hooser, 57, of Big Spring, Texas, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 2 p.m. at 3301 Old Colorado City Hwy.
She was born Nov. 3, 1956, in Spur, Texas. She was a homemaker.

Indecency trial to end today

March 18, 2014

Punishment for a Big Spring man guilty of indecency with a child is expected to be assessed in 118th District Court today.

Reymundo Martinez, 50, faces up to 20 years in prison for the offense, which was first reported to police in August 2012.
