Sharon Kay Meads

August 4, 2014

Sharon Kay Meads, 59, of Big Spring, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in a local hospital. Memorial services were held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Alan Wallace officiating.
She was born June 17, 1955, in Midwest City, Okla. She graduated from Big Spring High School and married Tommy Brumley in 1973 and they had two children together. On April 12, 2001, Sharon married John Meads in Big Spring. He preceded her in death Aug. 2, 2006.
Sharon was an office assistant at Hester's Mechanical before she became ill.

Registered sex offender arrested on multiple charges

August 4, 2014

A registered sex offender has been arrested and been charged with burglary with intent to commit an assault and fleeing a police officer.
Paul Hildreth, 45, remains in the Howard County Detention Center after being taken into custody Sunday.

Police release sketch of stabbing/rape suspect

Big Spring Police Department has released a forensic drawing of the suspect wanted in the sexual assault and stabbing of an 84-year-old woman July 17 in Big Spring.

The victim was able to describe the suspect to a forensic artist. The suspect is believed to be 6 feet tall and weight approximately 200 pounds.

Big Spring ISD student registration begins Aug. 19

Area public students have only a few weeks left before first day of school.

School begins Aug. 25 in Texas and Big Spring Independent School District employees are gearing up for another academic year.

Ronnie Ray Hodges

Ronnie Ray Hodges, 59, of Big Spring, died Thursday, July 25, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Graveside services with military honors will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel. Dr. Doug Shelley of Eastside Baptist Church will be officiating.

Betty Ruth Green, 85, of Big Spring, formerly of Jal, N.M., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in a local care facility. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

August 2, 2014

Earnest Henry Jr., 71, of Big Spring died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Rockwood Manor in Midland. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Police search for 2 suspects in Rios murder

LUBBOCK — Arrest warrants have been issued in connection to the murder of an 18-year-old Big Spring man.

Lubbock police are searching for 18-year-old Noel Serrano and 21-year-old Mayra J. Caraveo in the murder of Fabian Rios, who died Wednesday morning from stab wounds to the chest.

Serrano is described as 5 foot, 3 inches, 145 pounds with brown eyes. Cavareo is 5 feet, 4 inches with brown hair and brown eyes.

Postmaster's wife indicted by grand jury

The wife of Big Spring’s postmaster faces felony charges after being indicted for alleged fraudulent filing of assistance claims.
Felicia Guadalupe Fleet was among those indicted during last week’s session of the Howard County grand jury. She is charged with tampering with a governmental record, a third degree felony which carries a possible prison term of up to 10 years.

Desmond Williiam Powell Jr., 83, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday July 30, 2014, in San Angelo. The family will receive friends from 6p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Johnson’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Andress officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
