Bearish oil market fuels gas price decline

November 17, 2014

Average retail gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 0.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.70 a gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 gas outlets in Texas.

This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.89 a gallon.

Decatur ends Lady Steers' playoff run

SNYDER — The Big Spring High School Lady Steers 2014 volleyball season came to an end on Friday afternoon in the friendly confines of the Scurry County Coliseum with a tough 3-0 setback against the Decatur Lady Eagles in the semifinal round of the Region I-4A Volleyball Championships.

Big Spring defense manhandles Gainesville

ALEDO – When the Gainesville High School Leopards looked at the statistical numbers associated with the Big Spring High School Steers, they probably got all giddy and developed a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.
Garrett Wigington and Manuel Galvan helped the Steer defense turn that feeling into one of disappointment and despair on a cold Friday night at Bearcats Stadium. The two helped turn a dominating defensive effort by the Steers in the first half into a thrilling 35-17 victory in the Class 4A Division bi-district state playoffs – and a return trip to the second round.

Nell Key, age 84, of Colorado City died Thursday in a local care center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 in the First Baptist Church of Colorado City with the Rev. Danny Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Mr. R.K. Taylor, 89, of Ira, Texas, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at his residence in Ira after a lengthy illness.
Graveside service for Mr. Taylor will be held Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Ira Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Thomas Wayne McNeal

Thomas Wayne McNeal, 84, of Vealmoor, died Thursday, Nov.13, 2014, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Gary Bryant officiating. Friends and family will be gathering in Vealmoor immediately following the memorial service.
He was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, and married June Ulery June 15, 1963, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Roger W. Brooks, 69 of Big Spring, Texas, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Stanton. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton.
He was born Feb. 27, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas. He married Carla Perry June 27, 1975, in Midland, Texas.

Virginia Ringener

Virginia Ringener, 88, of Big Spring, went to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at her residence. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 at Myers & Smith Chapel with Pastor Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Tumbleweed signs CDs

Radio personality Tumbleweed Smith hands over a signed copy of his newest CD “Tumbleweed Smith's Top Picks” to Janell Davis Saturday morning at the Heritage Museum. This is Smith's 17th commercial release and features 28 of the the funniest and most intriguing interview subjects from his radio program, The Sound of Texas. Two of the tracks feature Big Spring stories. Some of the proceeds from the special CD signing went to supporting the museum.

Steers roll on

Big Spring High School’s Steers celebrate after defeating Gainsville 35-17 Friday in Aledo to claim a Class 4A Region I Bi-District title. Next Friday, Nov. 22, the Steers will take on longtime rival Andrews at 7 p.m. in Odessa’s Ratliff Stadium as they continue their push toward a state championship.
