Reta May Spradling

October 23, 2014

Reta May Spradling, 92, of Big Spring, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church of Big Spring with the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating. Interment will follow at Mt Olive Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Reta was born July 16, 1922, in Yowell, Texas and married Orville Spradling June 3, 1944, at Camp Rucker in Coffee County, Ala.

Richard 'Dick' Raymond Tobias

Richard "Dick" Raymond Tobias, 81, of Brownwood, formerly of Arlington and Andrews, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Larry Mathis officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

He was born June 25, 1933, in Atlantic, Iowa and married Nelda Ann Shaw July 25, 1952, in Yuma, Ariz.

Bobby Baker, 80, of Sand Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial following at Coahoma Cemetery. Pastor Ron Westbrook of First Baptist Church of Sand Springs will officiate.

Jaynet Smith Hardin, 76, of Fort Worth, formerly of Big Spring, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, in Burleson, Texas. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Mayor cited for role in accident

October 22, 2014

Big Spring Mayor Larry McLellan has been cited in the Monday accident in which his vehicle struck and seriously injured a pedestrian.

Big Spring Police Department officers were dispatched to the intersection of 11th and Scurry shortly after 6 p.m. Monday in reference to a pedestrian-vehicle accident. It was determined that a vehicle driven by McLellan struck Big Spring resident Robert Pullin, 68.

Pullin suffered head injuries in the accident and was flown from the scene by helicopter to Odessa Medical Center, according to a BSPD news release.

Maria G. Gonzales, 84, of Corbin, Ky., formerly of Big Spring, passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at her home. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Corbin, Ky. There will be no funeral services.

She was born Dec. 24, 1929, in Big Spring, Texas to the late Salome Gutierrez and Manuela Martinez Gutierrez. She worked at Nurses Unlimited and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Big Spring, Texas.

PD requests DPS help in accident involving mayor

College theater department to present ‘Steel Magnolias'

The Howard College Theater Department’s production of “Steel Magnolias” is set to take the stage Thursday night.

“I encourage everyone to come to the play,” said Nathan Jacobs, Howard College theater director. “There is something for everyone to enjoy.”

The production will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Hall Center for the Arts, located on the Howard College Campus, 1001 Birdwell Lane. Tickets are $5 and $3 for students with a valid ID. For more information, call Jacobs at 264-5648.
